All terrorists can come and go as they please in Bengal

No security check for Dhaka-bound passengers

;Anindita Chowdhury
KOLKATA, 27 DEC: Passengers bound for Dhaka are subjected to no security check when they leave the Karunomoyee international bus terminus. Nor is their baggage checked.
While there have been alerts at regular intervals, the state administration continues to be lax.
The terminus in Salt Lake has no facilities for scanners or X-ray machines to check the luggage of the passengers.
The buses leave Karunamoyee at 7 a.m. and passengers report an hour earlier. While travel documents and tickets are checked, and bags tagged before passengers board the bus, the security check on passengers and luggage is done only when the bus reaches Petrapole close to the international border. There is a thorough check at the immigration centre just before the bus enters Bangladesh territory. However, the immigration centre is at a distance of 85 km from the terminus at Karunamoyee.
The West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation has drawn the attention of the police to this shortcoming requesting them to set up arrangements for a thorough check of luggage and the passengers at the international bus terminus itself as a safety measure in view of the terror attacks in Mumbai and other cities, and the security alerts issued from time to time by the Centre.
The state home secretary, Mr Ardhendu Sen said they would look into the request of the transport corporation, but noted that police escorts are provided with the bus.
The bus service between Kolkata and Dhaka was introduced way back in 1999 under a protocol agreement between the two countries.
While WBSTC operates two buses on three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, its counterpart in Bangladesh operates services on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There is no service on Sundays.

In spite of the threats of terrorist attacks our Bengal government sleeps.
I don't understand how we could be so slack here.
As I said ealier, the Left front in Bengal has destroyed all discipline.
They have relieved themselves of all responsibilities.
This government should be dismissed as they cannot protect the country
