My Autograph Book

While writing last week's mail, I suddenly remembered Jeffery Knights autograph in my book.
It got me looking into my autograph book.
I have never used the autograph book since passing out of school.
It brought back a flood of memories.
I have put down all the entries made in the book.
I especially treasure Bro. Morrow"s, Bro Hughes, Bro Finn's and Bro Gomez's.
Quite a few of the writers are no more with us but their memories remain.

“I see His blood upon the rose,
And in the stars the glory of His eyes,
His body gleams amid the eternal snows
His tears fall from the sky”

R D Barett, Mt. Carmel (24th Nov, ’65)

“Do all things well
And people will call you swell,
Have a good intention behind everything you do
And God will place you among His “Priveledged Few”
Tony Dayton (8/VI/65)
Begin your work with God,
And your efforts will succeed.
End your work with God
And your works will follow

C S Gurung (12/6/65)

A handshake tender and sincere,
Goodluck in all you do;
This is the Grand Finale,
Then onward we pursue,
That’s how it goes when old friends part,
A tear, a smile, a sigh.
The hardest word in the world to say
Is the little word “Goodbye”

Bro Hughes

It pleases one to remember the past

C Yonjan ( 25-11-65)

You may be anywhere in the world,
But remember that you are and Indian
and you have got the great
Responsibility in retaining the
independence of you country and make
her self sufficient in every sphere of life

A B Roy (26.11.65)

“You who are children must show obedience in the lord to your parents;
It is your duty;
Honour thy father and thy mother – that is the first commandment
which has a promise attached to it.
So it shall go with thee
and those shall live long to enjoy the land”
(Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Ephgsians)
Chapter 6 Verse I

Peter Menon (2 December, 1965)

May your life have
….just enough CLOUDS
To make a glorious SUNSET!

Wishing you God’s Choicest Blessings
And every success in your future career

If you wish to reform the world,
Reform yourself first, otherwise your
Labour will be lost.

V Janardanan

A gap between the teeth can be filled by
Placing a false teeth and a glass eye can
Fill the place of a real one but there
Is one gap that can never be filled and
this is the gap you have made in my
heart as we part at the end of school life,
perhaps, never again to meet.

Shankar Prasad Chatterjee (1/12/65)

“please remember me”

Ajit Sahny (3/12/65)

The greatest conquest a man can ever make is self conquest;
The greatest discovery a man can ever make is the discovery of self.
If you conquer yourself, which you have
alredy done, the world lies at your feet.
Because the way to success is not strewn with
Roses but with thorns you need PRAYER
To help yoy on your way. When you read these
Words remember a class mate of your who
Always admired you in his heart of hearts.

J K Ghosh (1/12/65)

Knowledge is the only instrument of power
that is not subject to diminishing returns
These are the few words you’ll remember me by.

I N Shrestha (3/12/65)

Try to be a cheerful person
For by being cheerful you
Make others cheerful
Thus a cheerful person is
A benefactor of humanity

Kamal Rai

Some like one, others like two,
I like one man?
And that is you”

Ajit Kumar Roy (3rd Nov, '65)

As our parting day has come
So shall we part, one by one,
But between us there’s always a chance
For our friendship to enhance;
By a pleasant meeting or so,
Or by the faithful postman’s “ho”!
Though we may be miles apart,
There always will remain in our hearts
The love which sustains a friend.

P K Gupta (26.11.65)

It does not matter what we do,
It does not matter how we succeed.
God has no need of our goods
It does matter why we do it.
God does want our hearts.

P Gomez (9.11.65)

Those who have been priveledged to be
Your contemporaries in Goethals
School will remember you as as very
great head prefect – possibly among
the tree greatest the school has
had in its long history.
We all admired your courage and gifts of leadership.
We wish you Godspeed

B C Morrow

Sister Irene

Its been a pleasure and an
honour to have been in the same

“You may be on the right road;
But if you just sit there
You’ll be run over:

Jeffery Knight

Grow into your ideals so that life can
Never rob you of them. The power of
ideals is incalculable. We see no power in
a drop of water, but let it get into a crack
in the rock and be turned into ice, and it
splits the rock; turned into steam, it drives
the pistons of the most powerful engines.
Something has happened to it which makes
active and effective the power hidden in it.
When in some remote part of your life
when you sit back and turn over these
pages and when you see these few words turn
your memory to the Good Old Days and me

Ian Wallace

The world is not enough, great sparkling ball,
Our greatest treasure is the Lord of all.

J A O‘Connor

All flesh is like grass
And all its glory like the power of grass.
The grass withers, and the flower falls,
But the world of the Lord abides forever

H Ludwig
25-1165

Wear a smile come what may
Do a good turn everyday

M D’Cruz
25th nov.1965

“Wit should be used as a
shield for defence rather than
a weapon to injure others”

Bruce Wallace

Your life will be what
You, with God, make it. The more you serve
And help others, the better you will become.
Prabhu aapke saath ho

R Slattery SJ

You pass through life once.
If there is any god you can do,
any little help you can give,
any little kindness you can show to a fellow creature,
DO IT NOW.
Make the world a little better,
a little brighter,
a little happier.
”Twill miss you when you’re gone.
Be good, be kind and you’ll be happy.

M B Finn

With the best of luck in the future

Gurmit Singh (3/12/65)

I hope you remember in future days,
A friend of yours, who,
Instead of making you smile,
Made you dis-spirited for days and days.
Your Dosti songs will always
Linger in my ears.

Shankar Chakravarty (28.1165)
