Another Life term Convicted Murderer set free on bail

HC grants bail to Suraj Bhan in murder case

Patna,(BiharTimes): A division bench of Justices Chandra Mohan Prasad and D D Jha of Patna High Court on Thursday granted regular bail to a former LJP MP, Suraj Bhan Singh, facing life-term in connection with the killing of a former Bihar minister.

Suraj Bhan was facing life imprisonment, given by a CBI court last month, for his involvement in the murder of former minister and RJD leader Brij Bihari Prasad way back in June 1998.

And so the legal juggernot goes on.
Murderers, convicted for life, granted bail to appeal to higher courts.
I will continue to maintain that as long as they are convicted, they should remain in jail unless they are declared innocent by a higher court.
Pending their appeals, they should remain in jail.
If they receive bail they will continue to delay the judicial process by asking for continuous adjournments so that they can browbeat, terrorise and bribe the witnesses to change their statements and turn hostile.
If they are not freed on bail, it would be in their own interst to expedite the legal process so that they are set free.
As at present, they are in no hurry to expedite the process and they may remain outside jails for even up to 20 years by which time most of the witnesses may be dead.
We have seen in Karnataka how a judge is being accused of corruption and is being prevented by advocates from holding court or from being promoted to the Supreme Court. Therefore what is to prevent any judge from giving bail for extraneous considerations.
To prevent this, it should be the norm that know convicted criminal is given bail no matter how long his appeal remains pending.
