Msgs from Old Boys 45

Msg from Guha Majumdar regarding Reunion

Dear friends
As already informed, we to have the company of Admiral Nirmal Verma and his charming wife Mrs. Madhulika Verma, As earlier informed, Admiral Nirmal Verma is a proud Ex-Goethalite, like the rest of us and he is eager to meet his old school-mates.

Admiral Verma has gone out of his way to invite his old school mates and their families to a concert by the famous NAVY BAND at the Science City Auditorium the same evening (09-11-08) which will be attended by the Governor of West Bengal and other VVIP’s.

The local Navy top brass have been interacting with me and I gather the impression that as per orders of Admiral Verma the organizers are also going out of their way and eager to bend backwards to accommodate Ex-Goethalites and their families and also ensure that all of us are as comfortable as possible.

Friends, this ia a rare opportunaity ……. To witness a performance by the famous Navy Band and that too in Kolkata and above all as special guests of the Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Don't forget that possibly the entire Navy by now knows that their Commander-in-Chief is an Ex-Goethalite and that we are all his dear school-mates. As Ex-Goethalites, it is our duty to ensure that we do not let-down our school-mate who is going out of his way and doing so much for us. Therefore, I request all those who have given me their names and maybe that of their spouses names too for the Navy Band, to make that extra effort to ensure that not a single seat reserved for Ex-Goethalites (the very first row) remains empty. Since we will be seated in the very first row, possibly with the Governor of West Bengal and other dignitaries, any empty seats or any late entries will become visible very noticeable.
As regards the Concert, please note the following :
· Venue : Science City Audotrium
· Time : 6.15 pm (please be before-time but not late. Ex-Goethalites should have learnt the value of time)
We have made arrangements for spot-registration @ Rs, 200/= per adult and we are ready to welcome and accommodate last-minute registrations. Moreover, the lunch is open to all Ex-Goethalites and their family. So simply walk-in, preferably with your wife and make this an occasion to remember
We have procured a few copies of the DVD made of the Centenary Celebrations. These DVD’s will be available @ Rs. 100/= each.
2. Mr. N. G. Kar (1962 batch) has compiled a collection of old English songs (popular during our school days) and he plans to raise money for the Orphanage being run by the school by selling this CD during the luncheon get-together. We can contribute our share by helping Mr. Kar in his venture.
Thanks
Ranjan Guha Majumder

Msg from Viraj Thacker

Dear Mr. Sharma,

One is compelled and happy to write and respond – especially to the unbridled enthusiasm of a 8 and 13 year old – “Dad we won, Obama won!” I must admit that my boys had a better grip on this historic election!

YES TO CHANGE: A RESPONSE

“I have a dream……” Forty two years later, MLK’s magical words (now enshrined in the hearts and minds of people the world over) see the fulfillment of that glorious dream! Let us not forget that the precursor and catalyst to the need for freedom and change was a man deeply admired by MLK and the world – M.K. Gandhi. Indeed a landmark election in America and a fitting tribute to the untiring efforts of these great leaders.

To be admired:

Mr. Obama’s poise, dignity, calm reserve in the face of desperate “mudslinging” and a true dedication to serve. The pen unquestionably has proved mightier than the sword, cutting through the barriers of race, culture, class and wealth …..black, white, gray and all shades in between.
We must take pride in the fact that all of these values were imparted to us at Goethals ……. it is very heartening to see that these are still very applicable!
So carry on Mr. Obama and ‘do your thing Bro….!’

God Bless these United States of America!

Warm Regards,

Viraj.

Dear Viraj,

Yes, it is a great feeling for the whole world to see Obama win.
It is a historic moment for the people of America.
Indeed, so much has happened since "Tom Brown's Schoold Days".
Let us pray, now there is peace on Earth.

Msg from Mark Jonah

Hello,

Delighted to hear from you. I attended Goethals in 1942 for one year. Prior to that I was in St. Edmunds College, Shillong, Assam province, when I was six years old. After Goethals I attended north point for five years and in 1948 immigrated to the USA with my family. Prior to departing Calcutta (Kolkata) in 1948 I attended St. Xavier’s college there. My family lived in Kolkata. Is there some website for Goethals where I could add a short biography? How could I find information about boys that attended St. Edmunds College?

I am in touch with several good old boys from north point

Thanks you and awaiting a response

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your mail.
Congratulations. You are one of the oldest Goethals Boys.
I was not even born at that time.
Our school has a website, not official, but maintained by one of our old boys.
I have given a link to the website at our blog http://goethals1907-2007.blogspot.com/
You can send the biography to me too. I will post it on our blog.
It is very active with articles / snippets coming from all our boys.
I presently, don't think any of our other boys have been to St. Edmunds.
But your letter will be put on our blog next Saturday.
We should get a feedback then.
I am trying to gather all the boys from all the Christian Brothers Schools
in India besides the Darjeeling Schools. This should be possible within one year. Your letter is a start.

Warm regards

Radheshyam
