Jaspal Singh Bindra, 1976

This has been sent by our GMS alumni, Delhi in their series,
know your fellow Goethalites.

Radheshyam

Mr Jaspal Singh Bindra is currently the Chief Executive Officer for Asia, Standard Chartered Bank, involving responsibility for 19 countries in Asia including Hong Kong, China, Japan, India and Singapore (excluding Korea). He works closely with the Regional General Managers and Country Managers to develop strategy, drive stronger regulatory and government relations, address governance issues and monitor performance at a country level. He also oversees all the M&A activities in Asia, acts as a senior contact role for major clients, regulators, governments and NGO relationships and aims to maintain good relationships with host governments, specifically regulators in Asia and the UK.

Mr. Bindra also chairs the Diversity & Inclusion initiative group wide. The focus is to improve diversity on Ethnicity, Gender & Disability across the entire Standard Chartered footprint and to facilitate adoption of world leading inclusive practices such as flexible working, multilingual communication, etc.

In his own owrds,

"After leaving Goethals I moved to Calcutta and enrolled in St Xavier's College to graduate with a B.Com degree. I followed that by completing the course to be a Chartered Accountant. In 1984, I post graduated from XLRI with an MBA.

My first job was with Bank of America which took me on postings from Calcutta to Delhi to Bombay to Singapore. After 10 years with BOA I moved to UBS Investment Banking. I had very rich experience with UBS across New York, Zurich, London and Mumbai. Four years later in 1998 I switched to Standard Chartered Bank, where I have now spent over 10 years, working in Mumbai, Singapore and Hong Kong. I am fortunate to be responsible for Asia and happen to be the only Asian among seven members of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank. I chair the Diversity and Inclusion initiative globally, which I am very passionate about.

I got married in late 1985 to Sumi who I had known for some years by then. We have a son, Amritpal, who is currently pursuing his Masters in Film Making at Los Angeles.

I remain a movie buff. Enjoy visiting new places but corporate travel does get excessive at times. My recent thrill has been the honour of carrying the torch for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. My current aspiration is to learn Mandarin for which I am taking tuitions.

I have to admit that the several years at Goethals instilled in me a sense of independence and tolerance plus an appreciation of community living, all of which have helped shape my value system, which has served me well in both my personal and professional life."

His Excellency Mr.Jaspal Bindra Esqr. CEO & Group Executive Director,
First of all I would like to convey my cordial congratulations to you on your promotion as Executive Director on retirement of Mr. Gareth Bullock being your goodself related to this sub-continent.
Now I have the honour to take interpedity/temerity to invite your kind attention towards my miserable circumstances and seeking your help to resolve my present matter.
With best regards it is stated that I am an old man of 59 years from Karachi Pakistan. I was runing my business of Mobile CellPhones.Meanwhile M/S. Standard Chartered Bank of Pakistan provided me business loan on pre-colateral of our house.Unfortunately meanwhile I became sick and fell victimof Mental depression, Hypertention ,Diabetic and cardic disease with the result I sustained huge loss and I lost my business and I became Psychiatric Patient. The above cited Bank,s threat is to auction our house. I narrated whole matter in the mercifulappeal to Mr. JHON PEACE andMr.PETER SANDS 1,Aldermanbury Square London U.K Phone #00442078858888 of London to the President and the Chief Executive of the Bank respectively with complete evidences four times one and again but still my matter has not been resolved.
Now I am on the way going to knock the doors of Human Rights agency as well as Psychiartic Forum being the matterof my life and death.I am too much mentally dpressed and afraid to sustain the loss of my house.I am in severe depression and worried about the dire consequences by above Bank.
I am also feeling some kinds of sounds producing in my mind. My mind depressing me to commit suicide in order to get rid off such liabilities.
I submit my merciful Appeal to your kind honour because you are quite capable to play vital role to resolve my matter on humanitarian grounds.
It is worth mentioned here that now the karachi Pakistan Bank has partially solved my matter but it is yet to be resolved now completely.
I honourably request your kind honour to take-up my matter on humanitarian grounds with your kind hearted goodself in order to prevent the action of above Bank as you are fully competent and decision making power to consider and solve my issue and give me mental relief and save my soil.
I am looking forward to your kind action.
