Christian Schools

Great letter Thondup.
You've hit the nail on the head.
One has to remember too that most of the media in India is Christian orientied, there aren't too many things in the media controlled by the Hindu community.
One also has to realise that India is basically a Hindu country.
To my mind they are a wonderful and tolerant community - theirs is not a religion but a way of life and so they have absorbed any and everything that has been thrown their way. This includes being listed as a majority community and therefore without any benefit for education and jobs (see the quota system).
Where on earth would this nonsense be tolerated?
I'd certainly like to see the present lot of clerics (as Thondup says, Keralities, Tamils and the like) flourish in, let us say, Pakistan! OK, try Indonesia... no, how about Iran? Saudi Arabia???
We have pushed these Hindus to the wall and they are just beginning to kick back. If they have become militant, it is because we have forced it on them.
Think about it.
Has the Parsee community had any clash with Hindu, Muslim or Sikh? No... because we don't convert, we don't ask for quotas and we treat everyone with the same respect we get from them.
But the monster of religion is rearing its ugly head in India and it will swallow thousands if it is not put down. At this time we have a government as effective as the Bush regime here in the US, so any sort of firm hand to quell things can be ruled out.
Sorry to be the bearer of such grim tidings. Religion is a a grim business and has been responsible for more deaths & depravation than any other single instrument, including the likes of Hitler, Bush, et al.
Cheers,
Minoo (Avari
