Sh Arvind Kejriwal
Convenor
AAM AADMI PARTY

Sir,

We are pleased to introduce All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) as an apex body of
Transporters - (both Cargo and Passenger) serving the industry from last 75 years, representing
approx. 75 lacs Truckers and approx. 40 lacs Bus & Tourist Operators and about 1.6 lcas goods
transport co.s. It is an umbrella body of covering over 2500 Taluka, Distt., State level
Federations & Transport Associations express serious concern on the deteriorating health of road
transport sector.

Your party’s ascendance to the political scene in the National Capital of India has expressed
strong people sentiments for corruption free way of life. It sprung positive environment for those
associated with road transport sector, at least, since 66 years of Independence.

Never ever the Governments’ in the past have taken any conscious steps to facilitate, help or
taken initiative for the development of this sector. The successive governments have only
considered this sector as revenue source. More than Twelve to Fifteen Crore people
associated with the road transport fraternity across the country have made up their mind
to vouch their support to the Party that bring in positive change in the road transport
sector and redress their grievances.

We, at All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) submit that our truckers and transporters
are a perennial victim of the high-handedness and harassment on road at the hands of RTOs,
Police and anti-social elements. We have always professed that the erring and corrupt officials be
reined in swiftly so that an enabling and hospitable environment is created for the road transport
fraternity. Your initiative definitely gives us a hope for survival of the industry.

For years the road transport sector is besieged in the vicious circle of bribe and corruption. We
are the worst affected as more than Rs 50,000 crores per year is going as bribe and extortion
money into the pockets of corrupt RTOs, DTOs, Sales Tax and Police officials who can be found
everywhere across the country. No state or district is free from this problem. The truckers’
margins are continually dwindling due to ever increasing demand of these people on the road.
But to sustain his livelihood and avoid harassment the poor trucker’ fall prey to the system,
which has made the foundations of this sector very hollow.

In Delhi the road transport fraternity has been singing paeans of the tangible difference made by
your government. The corruption levels went to abysmally low levels and even the RTOs,
Traffic Police, Sales Tax officials and Police feared to stop the commercial vehicles and ask for
bribes. This comfort zone was never ever experienced by our fraternity during past 66 years.

The corrupt way of life has resurfaced again with going away of your government albeit due to
collaborative sinister designs of opposition. But it has given confidence not only to our industry
and to the common man that “if there is a will, there is a way” and the so called monster of
corruption can be tamed in a systematic fashion.

More than 20 lacs strong transport fraternity and people associated with it in Delhi relish
moments of refreshing change under your governance and truly admire your progressive and
people oriented policies.

The road transport fraternity of Delhi and the whole of India shall support your party in the
forthcoming General Elections and Assembly Elections in Delhi hope that you will make special
efforts to bring this all important sector of economy out of the vicious circle of corruption and
regressive policies and laws like Toll Policy, Multiple Taxation, Non – Uniformity in
Commercial Taxation norms in States, Levy of Entry Fees inspite of National Permit Fees.

We, therefore, request your goodself to expressly take up the issues of road transport sector
of India in your Election Manifesto and promise to weed out corruption and harassment
that is rampant in this sector.

Thanking you
Yours faithfully

The transport industry is one of the most important service industry for the country. Yet, it is treated like dogs. Police men and their chamchas at each crossing extract money from the driver and khalasi at every point. It is about time they combined to remove those people who were harassing them.
