Msg from Karan Mehta
Dear Radheshyam,
Last year Jimmy Keir had made an appeal for old DVDs for the libraries they are starting in the village schools in and around Kalimpong. i understand there was no response and thus my message now (which please post in your weekly message) once again reminding everyone of this request.
I am quite sure that everyone will have some DVDs lying around at home that they will not be watching again. Please contribute them to the library so that some children and some poor families may use them instead of them just collecting dust. You would also create space at home to buy new DVDs for your collection.
The DVDs can be of any nature that children can watch - entertainment, documentaries, travel, etc.
I hope some boys will come forward with their unwanted DVDs. I am in Kolkata and planning to go to Kalimpong in early March, and will be very happy to take them there. I understand that a Kolkata group is also travelling to Sikkim sometime this year - even they could take some along and drop them on the way.
Karan

We are not at the end of the decade; the decade should end at the end of 2010... because the I presume 1st calendar year was 0001 and not 0000, so the 1st block of 10 years (decade) ended at the end of 0010. Thus the new decade should start at 2011.
Ashoke Singhi
You are forgetting 2000.
The decade and century actually started from that year and the decade of 10 years is completed in 2009.
The next decade starts with 2010 and will continue up to 2019

Msg from Jimmy Keir
DEAR JOE,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CARD AND SEASONAL GREETINGS. CERTAINLY HOPE 2010 WILL BE A GOOD ONE FOR YOU.
I AM TRYING TO SET UP A LIBRARY OF DVDS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE VILLAGE SCHOOLS IN KALIMPONG WHERE THE GLENN FAMILY FOUNDATION IS INVOLVED IN VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT. THERE MUST BE MANY DISUSED ONES IN HOMES WHERE THE CHILDREN HAVE GROWN UP. RADESH HAD PREVIOUSLY PUT OUT SUCH A PLEA , BUT LITTLE CAME OF IT. I AM MAKING ANOTHER ATTEMPT AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF KARAN MEHTA VISITING OUR SCHOOLS IN EARLY MARCH. KARAN HAS RECENTLY RETURNED TO KOLKATA FROM ITALY. WE NEED A CENTER POINT FOR THE DVDS TO BE DROPPED OFF. WILL YOUR RESTAURANT, THE SILVER GRILL AT 18 E PARK STREET , BE CONVENIENT, IF NOT, COULD YOU SUGGEST SOMEWHERE ELSE, JIMMY'S KITCHEN PERHAPS? IT WOULD BE A GOOD MEETING POINT AND GOOD FOR BUSINESS.
I AM EXPECTING THE FINE SPIRIT OF GMS OLD BOYS TO RISE TO THIS REQUEST AND SO TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO ENHANCE THE EDUCATION OF OUR KIDS.
WITH KIND REGARDS TO ALL THE FAMILY,
JIMMY

Radhes,
Knowing your disdain for Politicians, you'll have to agree with this !! Have Ajay and Shalini settled on a name for their Son ?
Hari Om
Matt
Hari Om sir,
The name has not been decided yet.
As per horoscope, the name should start with Ke (as in Keith).
Kishan is a good name but his brother (Mama's son) already has a name Krishna, Both Kishan and Krishna are the same names of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
Let us see. Being his great-grand-dad, you will be the first I"ll inform
Yes,I agree with you about politicians mentioned.
I just can't think of sufficient names and adjectives to describe my abhorrence for them.
This is the penalty we people have to pay in a democracy where the people are uneducated.
Politicians are the same everywhere as some posts from USA has shown.
However, we developing countries have to suffer them more.
Being a developing country, we are given aid by the developed countries which these politicians just loot.
No decisions are taken for the betterment of the country.
All actions are taken with an eye on the Vote banks.
Sometimes I think that democracy is a curse to developing countries.
China could never have made the progress it has made, so rapidly, if it was a democracy.
A benign dictator is what a country needs during the developing stage otherwise 90 % of the wealth of a nation is accumulated in the hands of 2% of the population and politicians make up 75% of the 2%.
The rest get just sustenance.
Warm regards ,
Radhe +Manju
