Life, A horse race

Students missing after poor results
OUR CORRESPONDENT
Gaya, Oct. 7: Apparently unable to cope with stress and possibility of parents being embarrassed at a parent-teacher meeting, two Class VIII students of Creane Memorial School have gone missing from home since Monday.

Gaurav and Aman were apparently afraid of being admonished by parents and teachers because of their poor English and mathematics scores in semester tests.

Sometime ago, a Class X student of the same school killed herself after being allegedly scolded by her mathematics teacher for scoring poorly in her paper.

The girl poured kerosene over her uniform before setting herself on fire.

According to Gaya superintendent of police (SP) Sushil Khopde, the parent-teacher meeting was scheduled for Tuesday.

The SP added that the school had the reputation of being strict with students and that both boys were spotted leaving school together on Monday.

When contacted, principal Father Raj said that the two were “average” and that the “possibility of them being ashamed for having scored poorly” was “improbable”.

He also blamed the girl’s death to an outcome of a love affair, rather than trouble at school.

Every year, when the result season arrives, I start feeling uneasy.
Every year, after the results are declared suidide cases increase because of poor results. Girls being more sentimental are more prone to this disease. It is a disease.
I would request all parents not to put too much pressure on their children.
Let them enjoy their childhood.
Give them a schedule and ask them to follow it.
Sit with them, give them company. when they study.
If you yourself are going to gossip with your neighbours or watch TV you must not expect that your child will study with concentration. His ears will be on your gossip or the TV programme.
Without concentration, he will not be able keep his lessons in his mind.
Further, school results are not the finals for anybody.
Life is like a horse race.
Just as in a horse race competing horses move past each other as the race proceeds, children also exceed each other in life as it progresses.
Your child may not have done well academically but he may excel in some other walk in life.
Many of our great scientists were plain children but they excelled later on.
Your child may go on to become a good writer, poet, musician, sportsman, statesman, businessman, administrator.
I have not mentioned politician as I consider them a curse to any parent, especially Indian politicians.
Hence, never make your child feel that the world will come to an end if he does not do well.
Let him know that no matter what he does, you still love him / her.
Then we will have fewer suicides.
Remember, Bill Gates was a college drop-out.
