Australia, A Big Country

Hello Redheshyam,a bit of intresting info re.Size Comparison-Australia/Europe! Regards,Keith

Keith Hayward has sent the above map of Autralia with the whole of Europe superimposed.
Yes, Australia is a big country.
I only wish they had as bid a heart and did not not have to decimate the original aborigine population of the Country.
They could have easily given them, to live peacefully, a portion of that portion which is not coverd by Europe's map instead of exterminating them.
But I suppose that could not be expected from them as criminals from Great Britain were sent there to populate it.
We too are not white washed babies.
The way we have treated our own adivasi population in Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and other parts of India is nothing short of shameful.
At least the Australians can say we were criminals but our people who exploit the advasis are white collared, educated people.

right... I think you should check your facts before making sweeping statements of gross inaccuracy. Furthermore I find your statements bigoted and offensive.

You could call me bigoted if you can prove that you have not decimated the orginal inhabitant of Australia just like the Americans did the the Red Indians.
Your prime minister himself has only tendered an apology for all they did to those poor people.

Doing so would neither prove nor disprove the veracity of my statement that you are a bigot.

A comprehensive definition of bigot goes something like this:

"A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs. The predominant usage in modern English refers to persons hostile to those of differing race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, various mental disorders, or religion." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry)

Based on your original comment, you have displayed bigotry. I note also that you have not acknowledged that your comments caused offense.

As a progressive nation, the Commonwealth of Australia and some of the sovereign states of Australia have peacefully grapled with complex political issues including treaties, agreements and negotiated settlements with Aboriginal groups.

The "decimation" of the indigenous peoples of Australia as you put it, was caused by, as it was in North America and South America, and other places, predominantly by viral infections, notably Smallpox. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Indigenous_Australians, for example)

Whilst I believe that non-violent solutions are preferable to violent ones, and I am sad when I think that there were people killed in Australia often only because of cultural misunderstandings - for example a lack of agreement about property ownership - I can understand the colonial pioneer mentality that existed in the borderlands of pre-federation Australia.

Every situation has a context, and without understanding the context, the situation cannot be understood, and only bigoted opinions formed.
