Richard Johnson's information regarding Makaibari T.E. was really pleasant reading. The accompanying picture of the tea garden took me down memory lane.
The visions of Kettle Valley Balason river, Red Cross, Doctor's Farm,
St. Mary's, Mount Carmel and Roly Poly all appear
before my eyes as if I had just left them only yesterday.
Remember plucking and savouring the juicy raspberries on the way
to Red Cross and catching small fishes from the murmuring
stream at Roly Poly and putting them in Horlicks bottles.
Some boys collected all sorts of beetles in a box, the prized one
being the rhino beetle with a tough skin.
Remember playing dacoits and police in the jungles of Roly Poly.
The making of camps and sending spies.
Then tying up of a prisoner with monkey ropes.
Oh God ! what a life we are missing !
Somebody, I think it was Richard Hayward, who broke his arm while
doing a Tarzan act at Roly Poly.
One l incident I remember very well, and I still have
a big laugh when thinking about it.
N.K.Sarkar and Lawrence Keelen were fisting it out.
We had made a circle and the two boxers were in the centre.
Br. Mark came to stop the fight. Here comes the hilarious part.
As Br. Mark tried to separate the two boys,
both of them - instantly - pretending to hit one another,
thrashed Br. Mark to their hearts' content.
How we enjoyed the comic scene and laughed.
