Fiddling with Genes

Some days ago there was a news item in the Telegraph of large size tomatoes grown in China, about eight to ten times the size of normal tomatoes which see in the market. Placing the seeds of different vegetables in spacecrafts, which then circled the earth, did this. It seems rays from outer space, which changed the genetic structure of the vegetables, bombarded the seeds. Well it all worked to good purpose if it solves the world’s food problem.
However, I would suggest that these experiments be restricted to only vegetable and plant seeds and not be carried forward to the next stage, i.e. animal and human eggs and sperms.
Just imagine what monsters we would be having if George Bushes and Osama Bin Ladin’s parents’ sperms and eggs had been bombarded with those rays.
Or imagine the problems our culling team would have had during a bird flew if all those poultry they had to cull were over 100 Kg each. It is mind-boggling. As it is, they had put up their hands culling the existing teeny breed of fouls.
Or suppose Hitler’s, Mussolini’s, Stalin’s , Aurangazeb’s, Chengiz Khan’s parents had had their eggs bombarded. Imagine the additional suffering people would have had to endure.
But there are advantages.
How much more peaceful the world would have been if Jesus’, Buddha’s. Mahavir’s, Mahmud’s and other religious ideas were larger to embrace more people and save them.
The possibilities are vast and scary.
I just hope they do not fiddle with our genes.
