AAP - First List of Candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha Elections

Given below are the proposed first list of candidates for Lok Sabha elections with a short write up of each. As is the practise, AAP selects candidates who are well qualified, but may be not rich.

We request the general public for their moral and financial support and their votes.

The other lists will be posted subsequently.

AAP - First List of Candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha Elections 1.Kumar Vishwas to contest against Rahul Gandhi

Vishwas became a professor in Rajasthan in 1994. He has taught Hindi Literature to higher class students at Lala Lajpat Rai College for the last sixteen years.

Awards

In 1994, Dr. Kunwar Baichain Kavya Samman Avam Puruskaar Samiti bestowed on him the Kavya Kumar award.

In 2004 he received the Dr. Suman Alankarna award by Sahitya Bharti in Unnao.

In 2006 he was given the Sahitya Shree award by Hindi-Urdu Award Committee.

In 2010 he was given the Dr. Urmilesh "Geet Shree" Samman by Dr. Urmilesh Jan Chetna Samiti in Badaun

2.Ashutosh to contest against Kapil Sibal

Ashutosh was a prominent Indian TV journalist-turned politician of Aam Aadmi Party and spokes person of party. Previously associated with IBN7, of TV18 group, as Managing Editor.

Born as Ashutosh Gupta in small town in Mirzapur district to an Income Tax Officer. He graduated in science from Allahabad University. He is a M. Phil. (Soviet Studies) and MA (Philosophy & International Studies) from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi.

3.Mukul Triparthy to contest against Salman Khurshid

Khurshi along with his wife Louise was accused of large scale anomalies in distribution of aid to the disabled. in the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, an NGO run by Louise.

Symbolically, Mr. Tripathi is differently abled.

Mr. Tripathi is the son of retired High Court Judge Justice R.S Tripathi and studied and lived across cities in U.P. It was while in Allahabad in 1986 that he faced the first of three accidents. Though shocked and bed-ridden, he persisted and travelled to Moscow to pursue medical studies but only to face another accident there. On his return to U.P., tragically, he faced another accident, this time in Lucknow.

He worked as a reporter in Gorakhpur with Hindi daily Rashtriya Sahara, before working with Amar Ujala in Meerut, the place of his birth. He terms his seven-year stint in Lucknow between 2004 to 2011 as his best.

The most appreciated, according to him, was in 2009, when he broke the lid of a racket on adulterated edible oil in the city. "The story led to the suspension of 12-13 officials and the story was followed up nationally" he says.

The same year, he won the Shresth Viklang Karmi Award for his campaigns for the physically challenged.

4.Meera Sanyal to contest against Milind Deora from South Mumbai

Meera Sanyal (née Meera Hiranandani, born 15 October 1961) is a banking professional in India,[1] and a politician from Aam Aadmi Party.[2] She contested as an independent candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai South constituency and lost. She is President of LiberalsIndia for Good Governance - the Indian Liberal group, a not for profit think tank, that provides a platform for like minded Indian Liberals and Active Citizens to work towards improving the quality of life and state of Governance in India.

Meera is the daughter of Banu Hiranandani and late Admiral Gulab Mohanlal Hiranandani, a gallantry award winner, author of several publications on Indian Naval history, and a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). She is married to Ashish J Sanyal, Managing Director AMP Retail Services. She is the sister of Dr Manik Hiranandani.

Meera is an MBA from INSEAD, France and was the class valedictorian for the 2006 Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and graduated with a B.Com degree from Sydenham College, Mumbai. She studied at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai, Loreto Convent, Delhi and Fort Convent School, Mumbai.

Meera is one of India's leading Bankers, who announced her resignation from the post of CEO and Chairperson of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) India, to enter public life

5.Anjali Damaniya to contest against Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur

Anjali Damania is an Indian anti-corruption activist, real-estate developer and politician. She is the convener of Maharashtra state unit of Aam Admi Party (AAP), and a Director of SVV Developers. During 2011-12, she exposed corruption in the Kondhane dam project through RTI queries. She came into the limelight in 2012, after she accused the Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Gadkari of having a business partnership with the Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.

A pathologist by profession, Anjali Damania owned a 30-acre farm in the Kondivade village of Raigad district. In 2011, the government sent her a notice, stating that her land would be acquired for the construction of the Kondhane dam. In June 2011, she sent a letter to the Irrigation Department, asking for location of the dam as she wanted to check if her land would be submerged. She then went out of the country. When she returned in August, she found that the work on the dam had already started. She filed the RTI queries to know more about the project. Initially, she did not get any replies. After complaining to the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), she received responses and found several irregularities.[3] She found that the cost of the project had escalated from 56 crore (US$9.0 million) to 328 crore(US$52 million) in just one month after the contract was awarded. This increase was a result of a local elected representative's demand that the height of the dam be increased from 39 meters to 71 meters. In April 2012, along with another landowner Ajay Mathankar, she filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court. The litigation ultimately forced the government to cancel the tender for the project.[4] She also noticed similar cost escalations in other projects: the Kalu dam in Thane district, the Balganga dam in Raigad district and the Shai dam in the Thane district.

6.Yogendra Yadav to contest from Gurgaon

He is an Indian academic whose primary interests are in the political and social sciences. He has been a Senior Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi since 2004. He is a former member of University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Advisory Council (NAC) on Right to Education Act (RTE) appointed by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He is a candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2014 Indian general election.

Between 1995-2002, Yadav was the founder-convenor of the Lokniti network. He was also founder-director of the CSDS Lokniti research programme on comparative democracy between 1997 and 2003.[1] Since 1996, he has been a psephologist and political commentator on a number of television channels in India including Doordarshan, NDTV and CNN-IBN, as well as providing advice to Rahul Gandhi for the 2009 elections.

7.Social activist Medha Patkar to contest from Mumbai North East

She is an Indian social activist and social reformer turned politician. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has announced her as party's candidate for North East, Mumbai for Loksabha elections 2014. She is the founder member of Narmada Bachao Andolan and was National Convener of National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM), an alliance of progressive people’s organisations. She was a representative to the World Commission on Dams, to research the environmental, social and economic impacts of the development of large dams globally. She has also filed a public interest petition in the BombayHigh Court against Lavasa along with other members of National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM), including Anna Hazare She is known for her alternate view on growth of country and liberalization.

8.Mayank Gandhi to contest against Gurudas Kamat

He is a social activist and national executive member of Aam Aadmi Party.

He is heading the Aam Aadmi Party in the state of Maharashtra state.

He was arrested and released later, when he was marching for peaceful protest in front of NCP office against vandalism done by NCP worker at AAP office.

9 Baba Hardev Singh – AAP Candidate, Mainpuri

Baba Hardev Singh retired from Indian Administrative Service IAS. He was one of the most popular and upright civil servants of Uttar Pradesh. He was also President of UP PCS Officers Association. Baba Hardev Singh will take on Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh.

10.Subhash Ware will take on CWG scam accused Suresh Kalmadi in Pune.

Subhash Ware, a member of the AAP National Executive is one of the most respected names amongst activists and intellectuals in the State. Former Maharshtra president of the Chatrrs Bharati movement, he has been an active participant in numerous agitations both as a student leader and as a member of the Rashtriya Seva Dal. A staunch supporter of the India Against Corruption movement, Subhash believes that public representatives must focus attention on transforming the manner in which public policies are frames and delivered in this nation.

11.Khalid Parvez – AAP Candidate, Moradabad

Khalid Parvez is a social entrepreneur. He’s been active in the field of education. He will take on Congress MP Mohammed Azharuddin.

12.Senior Lawyer HS Phoolka to contest from Ludhiana against Manish Tewari

Harvinder Singh Phoolka, commonly known as H. S. Phoolka, is a senior advocate of Delhi High Court, politician, Human Rights activist, and author. He is known for spearheading one of the longest and most tortuous lega "crusades" to gain justice for the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots and fighting individual cases on the involvement of Congress-I leaders H. K. L. Bhagat, Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler despite the government cover-up. He received threatening letters for unearthing involvements of ruling political party leaders in what the Asian Age called "the Mother of all Cover-ups" in a front-page story. The special anniversary edition of the Outlook (magazine) included Phoolka in its list of 50 people that make a difference in India, alongside Amartya Sen and Abhinav Ghosh. He is contesting 2014 Lok Sabha Polls as an AAP Candidate from Ludhiana.

13.Vijay Pandhare to contest from Nashik

He was a bureaucrat in the Maharashtra, a state in India. He was the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department and a member of the state level technical advisory committee.

Pandhare is a whistleblower who wrote to the chief minister of the state of Maharashtra and its governor alleging irregularities and cost inflation in irrigation projects. The controversy raised by these communication caused the deputy chief minister of the state Ajit Pawar to resign. In his letters he pointed out that Rs 12,000 crore spent on lift irrigation projects in the state are a total waste as around 99 per cent of the total 227 projects in Maharashtra are not working and 90 per cent never began functioning.

Pandhare, in a letter to other engineers, alleged that corruption can be controlled by curtailing the powers. The irregularities were so serious Pandhare alleged that the government was "...playing with people's lives".

A Mumbai Mirror cover story carried the title "Warrior duo that sunk Ajit Pawar", crediting Pandhare with forcing the Nationalist Congress Party senior politician Ajit Pawar to resign from the number two post in Maharashtra's cabinet of ministers.

14.Jarnail Singh- AAP Candidate, West Delhi

Jarnail Singh is a tireless crusader for the rights of the 1984 anti-sikh riot victims. He was a journalist before joining the movement to get justice for the riot victims. Jarnail will take on Congress MP Mahabal Mishra.

15.Dr. Jiyalal – AAP Candidate, Lalganj

16.Habung Payeng – AAP candidate, West Arunachal

He is an information commissioner in Arunachal Pradesh and a member of the National Executive of AAP will contest from Arunachal West constituency. He is counted as one of the most strict and adept information officers in the country. Before becoming the Information Commissioner Habung Pyang was actively contributing to social work.

17.Alok Agarwal – AAP Candidate, Khandwa

A veteran activist of the “Narmada Bachao Andolan” (1990-2014) will contest from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. He completed B.Tech from IIT Kanpur. His dream is to provide empower the common man so that no political party may be able to exploit them anymore. He is inspired by the idea of Swaraj. His active involvement in the Narmada Bachao Andolan has helped him realize the struggles of the aam aadmi and encouraged him to dedicate himself to serve the nation through active involvement in politics. He believes that the Andolan must go beyond their present definitions and we must work together with other similar forces to bring about a change in the system.

18.Lingraj to contest from Bargal, Orisa

Lingaraj (Lingaraj Pradhan) is a social activist, politician, socialist thinker and politically affiliated to Aam Aadmi Partyworking from Bargarh district in Western Odisha, involved in various social, environmental and farmers' issues.

Prior to joining AAP, he was long time associated with Samajwadi Jan Parishad, a political party founded by Late Kishen Pattanayak Lingaraj does not use his surname Pradhan as he opposes caste based identity and decided to do away with honorary titles.

Lingaraj completed his Schooling from BS High School, Sundergarh in 1976. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree with Economics Hons. and Mathematics fromGangadhar Meher College (Autonomous), Sambalpur in 1980. Thereafter he went on to get his MA in Sociology from JNU, Delhi in 1981-83. He was also in the class of 1984 M.Phil batch in Sociology there. However, due to his association with people's movement in his home state, he left his M.Phil study midway and became a frontline activist.

19.Yogesh Dahiya to contest from Saharanpur

Yogesh Dahiya is a member of the National Executive of the Aam Aadmi Party.

He is a social activist and is a member of the Saharanpur Sugarcane Farmers Forum. He is a farmers' leader in western Uttar Pradesh and has been working for the rights of sugarcane farmers.

20.Soumendra Dhaka – AAP Candidate, Baghpat

A masters in law, will contest from Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh.. His livelihood comes from Law practice and agriculture. He is working for AAP from December 2012. He is involved in resolving the social issues and believes he can be the voice of the people from his constituency. He is inspired by the idea of Swaraj and wishes to make it a reality. Soumendra will take on RLD supremo Ajit Singh.

He is a peasant leader.
