Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei), March 2 (AP): Brunei has defended its tough penalties against illegal immigrants after revealing that nearly 400 foreigners were whipped in the past five years for settling unlawfully in this oil-rich sultanate, a news report said today.

Authorities have flogged 396 foreigners with rattan canes for entering Brunei without valid travel documents or overstaying after immigration laws were tightened in 2004, according to immigration department data reported by the Borneo Bulletin newspaper. Those whipped were mainly from other Asian countries, including Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Thailand, the report said.

Human rights groups such as Amnesty International have slammed Brunei’s whipping penalties, which are part of its criminal laws and are also used for other offenses including rape, theft and smuggling. Immigration department representatives could not be immediately contacted today, but the Borneo Bulletin quoted a senior official as saying that foreign workers must abide by the law.

We Indians sympathise with Brunei in the action it has taken to deal with illegal immigrants.
Amnesty International may go to hell.
Sitting in air-conditioned offices in Geneva or London they do not understand the plight of people who are completely submerged by an alien race because the government of the alien race is incompetent and corrupt.
Ask the people of Assam who have become minorities because of the deluge of migrants from Bangla Desh.
The same is true for the boarder districts of Bengal but here, the government would prefer to turn a blind eye for vote bank politics.
Ask Sri Lanka which is having a civil war for the last 20 years because of the immigrants from Tamil Nadu and for which Rajiv Gandhi had to pay with his life when he tried to solve their problems.
We in India have more than 4 crores illegal immigrants from Bangla Desh and Pakistan, who are spread all over India.
We would require a whole army of at least one crore people to flog the 4 crore illegal migrants assuming each person is flogged 200 times.
We would have to cut down whole cane forest to get the cane to flog them and it would still leave the illegal immigrants on our heads.
No. I feel the earlier solution offered by me was better.
Put 1000 people in a boat meant for 250 in the middle of the Arabian Sea, with sufficient food for 5 days and inform the Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and also Amnesty international to take them into their countries. Of course, the boats will have to be recycld. We could buy them back at a discount from Saudi Arabia or Amnesty international, after they rescue the illegal immigrants.
