Lokpal row: Digvijay Singh charges Team Anna of having a political agenda

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Reiterating that the government is committed to bring in a strong and effective Lokpal Bill, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday hit out at veteran social activist Anna Hazare and his aides saying the anti-graft movement has a political agenda.
"(The) charge of my party and myself has always been that the whole exercise is entirely political, because they don't see corruption in Uttar Pradesh, they don't see corruption in Uttarakhand, they don't see corruption in Karnataka, they don't see corruption in Chhattisgarh, they don't see corruption in Madhya Pradesh," said Singh.
"Only Congress-ruled states and the UPA Government in Delhi is their target. The Congress Party stands committed to bring a strong Lokpal Bill and therefore, there is no question of going back on this," he added.
With the civil society team reaching out to the leaders of various political outfits by inviting them to a debate at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday during Hazare's daylong symbolic fast for the passage of an effective Lokpal Bill, the government has begun moves to build political consensus on the anti corruption law.
Digvijay Singh earlier in the day informed that the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has called an all-party meeting tomorrow to discuss the issue surrounding the Lokpal Bill.
"I would say that the Congress Party is totally supportive of a strong, effective Lokpal and therefore the Prime Minister himself has called an all-party meeting. He is meeting the allies today and tomorrow. He has called the meeting of all political parties on the 13th (December)," said Singh.
"I think everyone should, every political party, all senior leaders must now get their minds together to have a strong Lokpal," he added.
Hazare sat on a daylong fast at the Jantar Mantar here on Sunday to protest against the proposals of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Lokpal Bill.
Hazare, who is fighting for a strong anti-graft bill, has been demanding that the lower bureaucracy should be brought within the ambit of the Lokpal besides provisions for Citizen's Charter and setting up of Lokayuktas under a central law.
The 74-year-old social activist has also warned the government that he would sit on an indefinite fast from December 27 at the Ramlila Maidan here if a strong Lokpal Bill is not passed in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
The Lokpal Bill is seen as a weapon to root out corruption and nepotism from the government machinery and in public life.
The proposed Bill envisages the setting up of a national anti-corruption watchdog to check financial mismanagement and corrupt practices that have deeply pervaded several democratic and civic institutions of India.
Hazare had staged an indefinite hunger strike against graft that he gave up on August 28 when the government agreed to deliberate the issues raised by him and his forum vis-a-vis the passage and enactment of the Lokpal Bill, a suggestion that has received unprecedented nationwide backing. (ANI)

Earlier Diggy Raja used to see the hand of the RSS behind Anna.
Now that all political parties were on stage with Anna on Sunday, he has changed his tack. Now he accuses them of having a political agenda.
Anna has said time and again that he has no political aspirations but Diggy will not believe him as he just likes to hear his own voice.
He also remarks why Anna is not seeing corruption in the states.

Let me remind him that corruption starts from the top and slowly percolates down like cancer. That is what successive congress governments at the centre has done.
That is why, it is to be attacked at the roots, ie. at the centre.
If the centre is not corrupt the states will automatically fall in line.
Especially now that the Congress is the largest party and is ruling at the centre, we all see that it is the prevarication of the Congress which is a hindrance in having a strong Lok Pal bill
