Chandigarh:
A Haryana court sentenced a woman doctor and a couple to a three-year imprisonment for female foeticide.
Judicial Magistrate Satish Kumar awarded the sentence to Reshma Yadav, proprietor of Janseva Hospital, Anil Kumar and his wife Sunita, residents of village Begpur, in Narnaul, 310 kms from Chandigarh.
The court found them guilty under the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act (PNDT Act), an official spokesman said here.
A team of the health department had detected a case of female foeticide during a raid at Janseva Hospital in Narnaul on June 18, 2008 and registered cases against Yadav and the couple.
Why does it take so long for conviction?
The crime was detected in June 2008 and conviction is taking place in April 2010.
But even this is comparative fast by Indian standards.
However, just think, if the conviction had been faster, maybe, a few more female foetuses may have been saved,
I also feel three years is a verylight sentence.
The doctors should be convicted under section 302, for murder
