D-Day, Setting foot in Alma Mater after 42 years
We left our hotel at 6.15 AM for Kurseong.
Since we had to visit school for the next few days, we decided to shift to Kurseong.
We put our luggage in Hotel Kanchan at Kurseong and rushed to school just in time for the March Past. There we met Bruce Wallace, Keith Wallace and many many others.
After the march past we were given permission to visit any part of the school we desired to relive the past.
We visited the corridors, study hall, dormitories, class rooms and all the fields.
The main shamiana had been erected in the 2nd field to hold all the functions. Another shamiana was erected in front of the garage for the grand dinner.
All present and old teachers, staff were awarded for making Goethals what it is today. The servants too received recognition.
We highly appreciate our schools appreciation of their service.
Some students who have done very well in their fields were asked to say a few words.Dr Prakash Bhartia, Mr Mathews Lobo and Basant Lama had some gems to give us.Basant Lama's speech was highly appreciated.
K K Rai of 1965 batch came and met us. Unfortunately he was not well and had to leave immediately.
Thereafter we renewed old bonds and took plenty of photographs and had tea and snacks.
Dinner started at around 7.00 PM.
There was good grub for both veggies and non veggies at the dinner. There was some gate crashing too as they did not have a look at the dinner cards which had been issued. Further, what surprised me was the free flow of hard drinks.
In a school where boys have been expelled for just smoking cigarettes, I do not understand how this was permitted in the open field with the school boys all around.
Further, after dinner, people had difficulty reaching Kurseong because of poor transport arrangement.
We left early after dinner for Kurseong with transport courtsey Ramdhari Agarwal of 1965.
We still had to look for hotel accomodation.
Thanks to Rajah Banerjee who had booked some 8 rooms at Tourist Lodge from 1st to 7th, two rooms were still available, Room No 202 and 306 were allotted to my and D K Roy's family.
In the morning when we had passed by, we had found these two rooms vacant and asked to be given these. But we were denied these at as they had been booked.
I have mentioned names of personalities in the pictures if known to me. If unknown to me or there is a large group, it is left to all of you to recognize your friends.
