Gujarat HC slams the State govt. over delay in local polls

The Gujarat High Court slammed the Anandiben Patel administration while quashing an Ordinance promulgated by the State administration to enable the State Election Commission to delay panchayat polls for three months citing law and order situation in the State.

The division Bench of the High Court passed its order setting aside the executive order calling it "unconstitutional" while directing the State Election Commission to start the electoral process immediately for 31 district panchayats, over 150 block panchayats and over 55 municipalities.

The court passed the order based on a petition filed by a Congress worker, who challenged the constitutionality of the Ordinance contending that it was meant to delay the polls citing law and order situation that has emerged due to the Patel agitation or quotas.

Earlier during the hearing, the Bench comprising the acting Chief Justice Jayant Patel and Justice NV Anjaria had reprimanded the Commission also for taking the State government line for delaying the polls.

Two women, one in the east and the other in the west.
Mamta and Anandi Behn - both think in the same lines.
Mamta too tried to delay panchayat and municipal elections in Bengal and succeeded.
Anandibehn too has tried to delay but the Gujarat HC seems to have put a spoke.
Will she file an appeal in the Supreme Court?
Mamata finally won the election due to intensive rigging.
Will Anandibehn do the same?
It will all depend on the Bihar election results.
