Somnath Bharti a hero for Khirki Extension residents

Somnath Bharti a hero for Khirki Extension residents

New Delhi: Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti who has been under severe attack for his infamous raid at Khirki Extension must have breathed a sigh of relief on Monday after three Ugandan women registered a police complaint seeking protection from sex traffickers.

Reacting for the first time to the latest developments, Bharti said on Tuesday, "I have seen the CNN-IBN story. This is what I have been saying."

Two of the three women who registered an FIR spoke to CNN-IBN where they indicated that there indeed was a sex racket operating in the area. The victims told CNN-IBN that they were promised jobs in India but were forced into prostitution once they landed here. The traffickers were African nationals, they said.

Bharti and AAP got into a major tussle with Delhi Police after officials refused to raid a house in Malviya Nagar's Khirki Extension where according to the former, a drug and sex racket was operational.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had backed Bharti and even held a two-day-long protest against Delhi Police outside Rail Bhawan in January.

Bharti on Tuesday said, "We have to unite on humanitarian grounds. We have to end this menace. Delhi Police needs to be exposed."

Ashutosh, spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party, had earlier in the day said, "We have been saying this from day one. We have been telling this is dangerous. I want to ask those people who have been pointing fingers, will Arun Jaitley and Narendra Modi apologise? The entire establishment must apologise to Somnath Bharti."

He also accused the police of being hand-in-gloves with the traffickers. "This was a motivated campaign against the AAP. Why did nobody take a stand? The Delhi Police was hand-in-gloves," he said.

Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti may have been accused of vigilantism, and being racist but for the people living in Khriki Extension he is a hero. The residents are backing Bharti who had conducted a midnight raid and told policemen to arrest Ugandan women whom he accused of prostitution and druf trafficking.

One of the residents said, "What Bharti has done for us, no other political party has done for 60 years. We are thankful to him."

After the above, is Sushil Shinde and the entire pack of Congress and BJP ministers going to apologise to Arvind Kejriwal, Somnath Bharati and AAP.

Is Barkha Singh going to resign?

She should, for giving a call to Bharati for appearing before it without first enquiring.

Is the entire TV fraternity who started baying like a pack of wolves make an apology.

It is the duty of the media to find out these happenings and bring it to the notice of the police and the government but they prefer to sllep off the cold winter nights in their beds.

Are the many anchors like Arnab Goswami, Barkha Dutt and others going to issue and apology?

Is the Times of India, going to issue an apology?

I have said before and I say it again, the electronic media should be reined in.

Like the auto-rickshaws in Kolkata, they follow no rules.

They shoot from their mouths first and then try to find out whether what they shot off was correct.

They destroy the reputation of people without caring to apologise after they are found to be outright liars.
