Attack on AAP demonstrators by Delhi Police
The following mail received from Prashant Bhushan of AAP, asking us for our support.
Dear Radheshyam Sharma,
We are outraged.
Yesterday many of our volunteers were brutally beaten up by the Delhi police for protesting outside the police station asking for the police to register an FIR in the case of a young woman who was confined and raped for 2 days in Gokulpuri. The picture (see below) and videos of the incident shows the viciousness of the attack on peacefully protesting young men and women. Several of them were admitted to the hospital with broken bones and bleeding wounds. When one of our volunteers asked for water, he was offered urine. (Read the news report in 'The Hindu')
Volunteers are our strength and when the police beats up any one of us, each lathi, each blow is a pain inflicted on all of us. Gandhiji’s freedom fighters had to endure the same brutality at the hands of the British rulers. Little did we know that this unjust treatment would continue even after we got independence and this time at the hands of our own elected government. This dictatorship in a so called democracy has to stop. This is what the Aam Admi party is fighting for as we wage India's second battle for independence.
Friends, let us send a strong message to all those who seek to silence the voice of the Aam Aadmi, that we are all united and will not allow people’s right to expression and protest to be trampled upon with such disdain. We demand justice for the violence victims and stringent action on policemen who were involved in this brutal attack on civilians.
Please take one or more actions listed below:
Sign & Share this Change.org petition. This is not only to register your protest but to show your solidarity with our injured fellow volunteers. Send it to everyone you know.
Join your local volunteers in protest/solidarity events on Sunday, 23rd June. More details can be found here.
We need to make permanent changes to our system. Talk to all your friends and family about lawlessness in Delhi and how the upcoming Delhi elections is very important. Ask them to Donate, Volunteer and Vote for AAP.
We stand united in support of our volunteers and condemn this atrocity!
Sincerely,
Prashant Bhushan
As I see it, this is a knee-jerk reaction of the Delhi Administration because the Aam Aadmi Party has decided to field candidates in the forth coning elections in Delhi and has already released three lists much ahead of all the other political parties. More specifically because Arvind Kejriwal has decided to stand against Sheila Dixit herself.
It must be sending a shock through her and the Congress party.
This is the same police force which was used against Swami Ramdeo in the dead of night, beating up all those who came in their way.
The Congress rule in Delhi is numbered.
