AAP - Kejriwal sounds the bugle

NEW DELHI: Minutes after making the key announcement that he would take on chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the upcoming assembly polls, Aam Aadmi Party president Arvind Kejriwal left for New Delhi constituency to collect signatures of 100 residents as per party requirement for contesting election.

Accompanied by about 50 supporters, Kejriwal kicked off his signature campaign from Diz Area in Gole Market, where within the first hour he was able to hit the halfway mark. While many thronged balconies, othersrushed ownstairs with election cards to render their support to the anti-corruption activist. As a mark of gratitude, Kejriwal gifted each an AAP cap. "Every second day we hear of a new scam. My heart sinks when I think of the future of this nation. It's time we push for honest people in politics," Anshu Tyagi, a teacher with Kendriya Vidyalaya, said.

Nag Narain, another resident of the same colony who invited Kejriwal, said they are looking for change to "break the monopoly of a single party". "I think young and honest people must be encouraged to join politics. Besides, 15 years is too long a time for a single person to rule," Narain said.

Talking of local problems, residents complained that water scarcity is a major issue in their area. "Despite being an NDMC area represented by the chief minister herself, we do not get sufficient water. The CM is only seen here during elections," Shanti Devi, another resident, said.

Sources in AAP said that by 4pm Kejriwal had managed to collect 100 signatures. "A large number of residents had come out on the streets to support Arvind. Towards the end we had to tell people to stand in queue to sign the signature papers," said Rajan Prakash, an AAP worker.

AAP volunteers added that even after hitting the 100 mark Kejriwal went around the entire area and met as many residents as possible. "Since volunteers did not expect to meet the 100 mark so early they had gathered supporters in every block. Kejriwal did not wish to upset anyone and hence walked through the entire area," he added.

At last the AAP has set the ball rolling for the coming elections from Delhi.

I have been waiting for this day.

We have been always helpless onlookers while the established political parties continue to rape and loot the nation. We are seeing the same thing repeated on the sports field where we see the BJP (Arun Jaitley) and Congress (Rajeev Shukla) combine to let the staus quo remain in the BCCI.

The BCCI president Srinivasan was supposed to have been asked to resign. The whole nation wanted it (except for the politicians) and true to their colours, they have played politics. They have brought in another corrupt person, Jagmohan Dalmiya, who has cases against him for not doing his job properly in the Bantala Industrial area which was to house all the tanneries in Kolkata and its surroundings.

In England, when the king expires, they say "The Kind is dead" and then continue, "Long live the King"

In India we say, that corruption is beeing tackled (Kilelled), "Long live Corruption"

We now have a chance to change all that by bringing about the change we all desired by electing AAP candidates.
