Mayawati wants more money

Mayawati sees conspiracy to keep U.P. backward
Atiq Khan

LUCKNOW:Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday blamed the Congress-led UPA government for the backwardness of Uttar Pradesh. Had a chunk of Central funds been given to the State on time, the BSP government would have achieved greater successes in public welfare and development measures, she said.

Addressing the media at her official residence here, she held the successive Congress regimes at the Centre and in the State responsible for the abject poverty and unemployment. “The 38 years of unbroken Congress rule at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh after Independence witnessed the biggest migration of the poor from the State in search of livelihood elsewhere.”

Ms. Mayawati accused the UPA government of hatching a conspiracy to keep the State “backward.”

The release of Rs. 17,000-crore Central funds had been delayed; as a result, not only the ongoing development works were stalled but also the cost of implementing the schemes escalated.

Deploring the Centre's silence on the Rs. 80,000-crore special development package demanded by the State, she said not a single rupee had been sanctioned. Even as the Centre adopted a discriminatory approach, several schemes named after the “Gandhi-Nehru family” were thrust on the State.

In spite of the Centre's step-motherly attitude, she claimed, the three years of the Bahujan Samaj Party government were “very encouraging” on the development and law and order fronts.

Referring to the report of the Judicial Impact Assessment task force, Ms. Mayawati said the entire cost of implementation of Central Acts should be borne by the Union government. In this context, she referred to the Right to Education Act and other schemes and said the financial burden should not be passed on to the States.

The Chief Minister, however, ducked a query on the Amethi visit of Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates at the instance of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

She released two booklets — “U.P.'s discrimination and Central assistance” and “The achievements of the Mayawati government.”

Does Mayawati expect us to swallow those excuses?
After squandering away more than 2000 crores in building statues of herself to boost her sinking ego, she expects us to believe she was short of cash. This and the sight of a full garland of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 rupee notes supposedly showered on her by her well-wisher leave no sympathy for her.
Before she demands more money she should reimburse the state the useless expense she had incurred.
It occurs because we do not ask our Representative what they would do, if elected. They should provide time bound action plans and if they fail, they should be kicked out
