CBI arrests MCI boss Ketan Desai for accepting bribe

MEDICAL COUNCIL of India president Dr. Ketan Desai and two others were arrested on 22April, allegedly for taking bribe of Rs 2 crore to grant recognition to a medical college in Punjab.

CBI searched the office of MCI president Ketan Desai following information that president Ketan Desai along with his associate Jitender Pal Singh was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 2 crore to grant recognition to a medical college. Late in the night CBI arrested Ketan Desai along with his two aids.

CBI spokesperson Harsh Bahal said on Friday that Desai along with another associate Dr Kanwaljit Singh of Gyan Sagar Medical College in Punjab have been arrested by CBI on corruption charges.

After receiving complaint that the MCI president is asking for bribe, the CBI laid trap and caught the accused allegedly with Rs 2 crore, which was to be delivered to Desai.

The spokesperson added that the three were interrogated and searches were going on at six places including Delhi.

The MCI is highest body of granting recognition to medical colleges and maintaining the uniform structure of medical education across the country. The MCI president's arrest in bribery case is liekly to destroy the credibility of the council.

Dr Ketan Desai happens to be the youngest ever president of the MCI and Indian Medical Association (IMA). He has a unique distinction of being youngest teacher member of the senate, Academic & Executive Council of the Gujrat University. To add another first in the list, he will be the first president of MCI who has been arrested for taking bribe.


There is no truth in the rumour that Dr. Desai has been recommending that the following books be made compulsory in all medical colleges in Inda.
