The Binny Affair, who is at fault?

Mounting yet another assault, AAP MLA Vinod Kumar Binny on Thursday accused the party of “cheating” the people of Delhi by backtracking on its election promises and called Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a “dictator“.

The Laxmi Nagar MLA, who was sulking after being left out of the Cabinet last month, addressed a press conference where he slammed the leadership on a range of issues and said taking support of Congress to form the government was a “compromise of the party’s principles“.

“We had announced publicly that we wouldn’t give or take support of any political party. Then what prompted the party to change the decision. Discussions were held behind closed doors on the issue,” Mr. Binny said, attacking AAP for forming the government with Congress backing.

“You (Kejriwal) have become a dictator. Stop fooling the people of Delhi. All decisions in the party are taken in closed rooms by four-five people. Arvind gets angry if people express any differences with him. If anyone speaks against him, he starts shouting,” Mr. Binny said.

The 39-year-old-MLA said the party has “forgotten” its ideologies and become “an opportunist outfit” after coming to power.

“They are using policy of use and throw. First, they have used Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi and still many people in the party are being exploited,” he said.

Mr. Binny said though the party during the election campaign had promised to provide 700 litres of free water to each household, the government “very cleverly” announced that those exceeding the limit will have to pay for the full amount.

On the electricity front, Mr. Binny said that the government “defrauded” the people of Delhi as the party had promised to halve the bills after coming to power.

“The government said subsidy will be given to those whose monthly consumption does not exceed 400 units. This is totally unacceptable. The party has cheated the people of Delhi,” he said.

The MLA said he will go on a strike if the promises made to people during the election campaign are not fulfilled by January 27.

He also attacked the Ministers of the Delhi government, maintaining though they had said they wouldn’t use red beacon cars, they have all taken big cars with VIP registration numbers.

Referring to the alleged gangrape of a Danish woman, he said had another party been in power, then AAP would have held massive protests in the city to target the government of the day.

“What have they done to protect the women in Delhi?” he asked.

The MLA also questioned the process for ticket distribution for the Lok Sabha polls and alleged that there was no transparency in it.

“The party is drifting away from the issues on the basis of which it came to power. It is deviating from its principles,” he said.

The MLA alleged that Mr. Kejriwal shares a “close friendship” with Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit and many of the government decisions were influenced by leaders of Congress.

Rubbishing the MLA’s criticism, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Wednesday said that Mr. Binny had come to him for ministership and later he wanted to contest the Lok Sabha polls.

The MLA termed as “complete lie” Kejriwal’s statement that he was seeking a Lok Sabha ticket.

“I am an honest soldier of this party. I will not leave the party,” he said.

Terming his criticism of the government and the party as a “fight for the truth”, Mr. Binny said AAP was not formed to grab power or make anybody the chief minister.

“The party has misled the people of Delhi on a number of issues. There is a big mismatch between what the party promised and what the government is doing,” he said. Mr. Binny also attacked the AAP leadership for failing to bring the Jan Lokpal Bill within 14 days of coming to power as promised.

“AAP came into power on December 28. Today, it has been 19 days,” he said.

He also trained his guns on Mr. Kejriwal, saying he was forced to not move to a sprawling flat following criticism by the people.

“He would definitely have moved to the flat if there was no opposition to it by the people,” he said.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday refuted the allegations levelled by its MLA Vinod Kumar Binny and said disciplinary action would be initiated against the legislator for “baseless accusations” against the party.

Addressing the media at AAP office here, senior leader Yogendra Yadav said the MLA was making “baseless accusations” against the party as he was denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha election.

“The party’s Political Affairs Committee will initiate disciplinary action against Binny and accordingly a show cause notice will be issued to him,” Mr. Yadav told reporters, adding, that party members could have different opinion but AAP will not tolerate indiscipline.

The AAP MLA from Laxmi Nagar on Thursday accused the party of “cheating” people of Delhi by backtracking on its election promises and termed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a “dictator”.

Mr. Binny addressed a press conference where he slammed the AAP leadership on a range of issues and said taking support of Congress to form the government was a “compromise on the party’s principles”.

“Today when Mr. Binny was speaking, it seemed that he was reading a script given to him by someone else. He has raised all those issue which the Leader of the Opposition Harsh Vardhan has been raising for the past few days.

“If he had any grievances against the party or its leaders, there are ways of expressing it. He could have taken up the issues in the party, but never did he raise such issues during any of the party meetings. It’s very sad,” Mr. Yadav said, adding, that Mr. Binny should not put personal ambition before the people’s hopes and expectations.

Mr. Yadav said the party MLAs had met on January 14 to discuss issues and during the meeting Mr. Binny did not raise a single point.

“Binny was a member of the screening committee during Delhi assembly elections. He was present at all important meetings and if he had any problem he could have raised the issues on the party platform,” he said.

The senior AAP leader said that Mr. Binny was interested in Ministerial berth and was keen to fight the Lok Sabha election from East Delhi.

We, the volunteers of AAP have always been critical of AAP's policy of inviting ex-Congress and Ex BJP members into AAP.

Now, we can only say "I told you so".

The Congress & BJP members mentality are the same. They were different once, when the BJP was known as the Jan Sangh, a party with a difference.

After, becoming the BJP, their thirst for power, made them admit members of other parties like the Congress, SP, BSP, JMM etc with the result that they are now a hybrid or adulterated party.

Hence welcoming members from either Congress or BJP is fraught with the danger we are witnessing with Binny.

Another problem is admitting high flying people like Capt. Gopinath and Mallika Sarabhai

. They are people who are used to power and would like to assume power here also and start bossing around.

This type of people are best avoided.

Both the above people were aware of the manifesto of AAP.

AAP was against FDI in retail and in spite of that Gopinath preferred to join.

And then after joining, he starts criticising.

Something like first starting a cheap airline and then making it run at a loss and then selling it to someone else so that the other person goes bankrupt.

No, Gopinath, we are happy as we are.

Please do not make us go bankrupt.

2 points about the Gopinath episode--1st he tried to run an airline with everything stacked against him-- a crooked DGCA, corrupt Airport Authority of India, corrupt Ministry of civil aviation and corrupt Ministry of Petroleum and corrupt Ministries controlling taxation and finance. He was out of his league.
2nd he joined AAP without thinking--without going through its website, its manifestos, youtube videos, tv interviews and printed media reports--maybe he likes to "Leap before looking"

Binny as an opportunistic Congress fellow is conveniently not giving the full story--
1 In case of the recent rape of the Danish woman --does he not know that the Congress ruled Ministry of Home Affairs has control over the Delhi police and not the Delhi state govt?
and why should AAP create senseless tamasha on this issue? I think Kejriwal targeting the real culprit ie Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday in dharna in his South/North block office is actually going to change the situation on the ground-- viz transfer of control of the Delhi police establishment from the centre to the state.

2 Then he uses half truths in case of the water issue or the electricity issue just like any other corrupt politician of the old school.

If a minority govt which can fall any day is delivering so many things in just 21 days after its formation, it is indeed commendable. People must watch both the recent Kejriwal interviews with Barkha Dutt on NDTV and the Rajdeep Sardesai interview on CNN-IBN
respectively to get a balanced idea of whats actually been done so far in all these cases.
