Uttar Pradesh: Samajwadi Party to give Lok Sabha ticket to gangrape accused

Seven years ago a 14-year old girl was allegedly gangraped in Lucknow. The case is known as Ashiana rape case after the locality where the crime took place. On May 2, 2005, a 14-year old girl was allegedly abducted from Ashiana colony and gangraped by six youths in a moving car.

During the investigation one of the accused claimed he was minor and is still roaming scot-free. Even as the victim and her family are leading a life of humiliation, the accused is allegedly being supported by the ruling Samajwadi Party.

The main accused is reportedly a close relative of a Samajwadi Party leader and he along with his five friends had pulled the girl inside their vehicle and raped her repeatedly. They had also burned the girl with cigarettes. After committing the heinous crime, they had dumped the girl in an unconscious state and fled.

However, three of the accused later died in a road accident while two others were convicted are serving their jail term. However, the main accused is still free as till now his age at the time of the crime could not be verified. The accused claims that he was a juvenile at the time of the crime.

Later when the Samajwadi Party came to power in Uttar Pradesh and there are allegations that the case has been put on the back burner due to political pressure. Now the Samajwadi Party is planning to give the accused party ticket to contest Lok Sabha election. To contest Lok Sabha elections the candidate should be at least 25 years of age.

Samajwadi Party's action of giving the accused ticket for Lok Sabha election raises an important question. The act smacks of duplicity as it shows that the state government is not serious about the rape victim getting justice.

What other proof does one require to show the true colours of political parties. the SP has the habit of putting up as its candidates the scums of society.

Remember it was this same party which had put up Phoolon Devi, the dreaded bandit queen who was later murdered by a person whose 22 members had been massacred by Phoolon Devi.

With all the outrage in India against Crimes, Idon not understand how the SP can dare put up a criminal accused of rape.

THIS IS ALL THE MORE REASON WHY ANYONE ACCUSED OF SUCH CRIMES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONTEST ELECTIONS.
