No relief for Mulayam, Akhilesh in disproportionate assets case

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged disproportionate assets of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, would continue.

There was however, some relief for Mulayam's daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav for the apex court said that there would be no probe against her as she did not hold an office of profit at the time the inquiry was started.

The Supreme Court directs CBI to file status report in DA case before it and to the government.

The apex court also said that the CBI is independent from the government and can continue with the probe as per the law.

On March 1, 2007, the apex court had ordered a CBI inquiry against Mulayam Singh Yadav, sons Akhilesh Yadav and Prateek Yadav and daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an advocate in December 2005.

The Yadavs had challenged the probe and alleged that the PIL was politically motivated. (ANI)

The above is from Yahoomail.

The Congress got the support of Mulayam Singh in the FDI on condition that the disproportionate asset cases against the Father-Son duo would be withdrawn.

The Supreme Court has put a spanner in the agreement.

However, with the CBI under the control of the Congress, it is anybody's guess how fast the CBI would act.

Further, why should the SC take a lenient view on the daughter-in-law.

She built her assets on the strength of her connection to the father-son duo.

I would suggest that she too be included in the CBI enquiry.
