I am back to Calcutta after about 15 days tour of Rajasthan.
Although I am from Rajasthan, I had never been to the southern
parts like Bikanir and Jodhpur.
This opportunity came when my wifes's sister invited us to their
son's marriage which was to take place in Bikanir.
Bikanir is famous for its sweets and namkeens which have been made famous by Haldiram.
However, there are some beautiful temples located near Bikanir.
One of them is the Karnimatas temple around 30 Km from Bikanir city.
You can reach it by bus or a reserved car which takes around Rs 700/-
This temple is known by the swarming rates which are given a free run of the temple premises.
At earlier times I was given to understand that you couldn't move a step without trampling on a rat. People were advised to drag their feet in the temple so that they would not trample a rat. Anyone trampling and killing a rat were supposed to donate a gold rat to the temple.
