Defiant bride stalls groom swap

HAZARIBAG: Change may be the only constant but one would at least expect one's bridegroom to remain the same. Imagine young bride Muniya Devi's surprise when she gets up on the marriage dais to garland her groom coyly, only to find the young man her father chose has been swapped with a deaf and dumb counterpart.

Muniya Devi's father, Kailash Sahu of Laraho village, had fixed his daughter's marriage to Munna Sao of village Turkabad on May 6.

However, when the barat led by Munna's father, Yugal Sao, reached the residence of the bride, she refused to garland the groom, saying it was not the same boy her father chose. The duplicate groom in fact was the deaf and mute brother of the original beau.

Needless to say, the bride's defiant refusal caused a massive pandemonium in the wedding party, with Muniya Devi and her father alleging the groom's family was trying to take advantage of their poverty.

The bride's family raised an alarm and held members of the grooms' family captive, including their father Yugal Sao. The bride's family went on to file a case of fraud and cheating against them with the Barkatha police station.

The police found the allegations to be true after investigation and reprimanded Yugal Sao. The police ordered the original groom be produced for marriage or all members of the wedding party would be arrested. In the end, Yugal Sao accepted the allegations against him and the marriage of Muniya Devi was solemnised with Munna Sao in the presence of the police.

We have seen these things happen in TV serials but are reading about it for the first time. After all, the TV serials depict what happens in actual life.
Do you think Munna would treat his wife properly after being forced to marry her?
These thing can only occur in states like Bihar, UP or Jharkhand.
