PS: What he meant was my posting the photographs of the get-together on our blog

Msg from J K Ghosh

Hello RS,

Saw the photos of the get-together held yesterday. But it appears AK, SP and DK were absent. I missed them in the pictures. So I mailed AK and he states he didn't go. Who are the committee members ? AK said there was no election, but nomination. What post did you get ? The Delhi Alumni is just sitting dum. They have my address, yet they don't send me information of what they are doing. I think their get-together was a flop.

There is still a chill in the air, especially in the morning and at night. A woollen cap is a must. Saraswati Puja is over, so cold is also over in Kolkata. My daughter-in-law has joined her office from today. The baby was no trouble at all. Only she has to be fed timely. The two of us are now stuck for good for a couple of years at least. I don't know how my wife will manage without me when I go to Kolkata in March. Our only hope is our landlady.

Bye for now.

JK

Dear JK,

AK was stuck with the Saraswati Puja and SP as usual had gone out.
DK is very much there in the pictures, just look.
I have been made a Bhairon Singh Sekhawat.
The list will soon be put up by Ranjan.
Delhi is so expanded that it would be difficult to collect all the boys unless the meetings are held at a centralized place and at a reasonable contribution.
The Rs 700/- which they were charging for the get-together is too much and very few boys would go.
In Kolkata the charges are Rs 250/-.
You are going to be kept very busy with your natni. Best of luck.
Welcome in March.

RS

Msg from Abhishek Kumar

Hello sir,

My name is Abhishek Kumar and i am a GOETHALITE like you,
and sincerely a very big fann of your e mails that you send
us on a weekly basis sir. I am a lot junior to you as i
passed out in the batch of 2002.
I certainly agree that Nitish Kumar is not at all a corrupt
politician as he has done a great deal for us in Bihar.
I am raising my voice in his praise cause i have actually
witnessed his participation in making that extra effort to
bring Bihar at par with all the other states of our country.
Will surely keep in touch with you sir.

Take care and god bless..

Abhishek Kumar

Thanks Abhishek for your feedback.
Yes do keep in touch and keep us informed of Nitish Kumar's good work.
Just as bad politicians should be abused and put in their place, good politicians should be told we appreciate their good work. That would encourage the good ones to greater activity.
India needs many more Nitish's.
Cheers,

Radheshyam

Hello there Sir,
Hope this mail finds you in the best of health. Just to bring to your kind attention that there was an award ceremony held 3 days back which was hosted by CNN IBN wherin our political hero " Nitish kumar was awarded the best " politician of the year " award. That is what i call an outstanding achievement as he was able to defeat his counterpartner Narender Modi.Hats off to him on that sir........!!!
If we as true citizens wish to see more of this "Species" of homo sapiens around, we need to exercise our right to vote. That again reminds me that i have just recently been woken up through the " Jaago Re " effect that comes on the tele evry now and then. Just expecting to see my name on the electoral list soon.

Rest good so far.... Looking forward to your response sir.

Best Wishes.
Abhishek Kumar.

Thanks for this news, Abhishek.
I am glad he has been rewarded.
But you know, these type of people go on doing their jobs irrespective of the rewards. Their work is solid unlike Mr. Narendra Modi's which draws more attention because it is announced with much fan-fare. However, Mr. Modi is also doing great work for his state. Like Nitish, he too is honest and transparent. Neither he takes money nor does he allow those working under him to earn bribes.
One of the ways how government officers earn bribes is by delaying files.
Mr. Modi has set a time limit on how long files can be held back. If held back longer than that, he calls for explanations.
Another place is transfers and postings.
Crores change hands on transfers and postings.
If transfers and postings could be automatically computer generated without any human hands, quite a bit of corruption would be eliminated.
Government officials are forced to earn what they spent on their transfers and accumulate for future transfers.
Nitish should also control these sources of corruption if he already hasn't.
Yes, I am now daring to hope that India will improve in the corruption index, with people like Nitish and Modi.

Cheers

Radheshyam

Msg from Ranjan Guha Mazumdar

Dear Friends,

This is to inform all Ex-Goethalites that in the meeting held on 01-02-09 at the Armenian Club, it was decided and agreed that the Goethals Alumni (Kolkata) should become a Registered body.

The names of the proposed Office Bearers and other Governing Body Members was read-out and approved by all. The following salient points of the Memorandum of Association and Rules & Regulations was highlighted / informed to those present.

i. Life Membership Fees ------ Rs. 5,000/=

ii. Annual Membership Fees ------ Rs. 1,000/= per annum

iii. Annual Membership Fees (for students who are still pursuing their higher education) --- Rs. 250/= per annum

iv. Term of Office of each Committee ---- Max . 2 years

President Mr. K. K. Chirmar suggested that the Life Membership Fees should be fixed at Rs. 10,000/= rather than Rs. 5,000/= as proposed in the Memorandum of Association.

Parthasarathi Sengupta put forward some valuable suggestions which were as under :

1. He suggested that the Life Membership be kept in abeyance and presently only Annual Membership Fees be accepted He had some very valid reasons for making this suggestion.

2. He further suggested that henceforth the Get-Together should be a Sponsored affair with the Alumni Committee pre-appointing a batch or two and this particular batch or group of bathches would sponsor all aspects of the Get-Together either individually or collectively amongst jointly / collectively while the rest of the Alumni would ensure that they graced the occasion in large numbers. He came forward and volunteered that he would arrange to sponsor the next Get-Together. How and with whom was his headache. This proposal too was widely appreciated and it was agreed to have the next Get-Together under the sponsorship of Parthasarathi Sengupta and his team.

3. He further suggested that Sub-Committees be former with Committee Leaders who would be the key points-man for a group of batches and it would be the responsibility of each such Sub-Committee to co-ordinate with his / their groups and pass-on the messages from the President / Secretary. This would mean that the Secretary / President would have to communicate with only a few boys and not all Ex-Goethalites in Kolkata. It would also be the responsibility of each such group to ensure that maximum number of boys of the batches under their wings became members of the Alumni, all Get-Togethers were well attended, that all meetings were well attended etc.

It was announced that presently we would be accepting only cash since we did not have a Bank Account and since the money was required for paying the Registration Fees, preparing stationary etc.

After these suggestions were unanimously accepted, the Office Bearers and other Committee Members were requested to come forward and sign the documents which had been readied for submission to the Registrar of Co-Op Societies for completing the formalities. Meanwhile, the Membership Form was passed around and those present were requested to fill-up the form and pay Rs. 1,000/= as Annual Membership Fees to Sri. Rudra RoyChowdhury who was issuing a temporary receipt.

For the benefit of all the boys, a soft-copy of the Memorandum of Association and Rules & Regulations is being attached along with this mail for you to read and be informed. We have taken pains to make the document very comprehensive covering all aspects and leaving very little unsaid.

A soft-copy of the Membership Form is also being attached. Those who have not received this Membership Form are requested to please fill-up this form and submit to the undersigned with their Annual Membership Fee of Rs. 1,000/= only as soon as possible without waiting for the next Get-Together.

It was regretted that a number of boys who had confirmed their participation in this luncheon meeting on the basis of which we had ordered the food, ultimately did not turn up as a result of which we had to pay for the excess food. It was decided that all such boys would be approached to pay @ Rs. 250/= per head to make-up / reduce the losses.

As earlier informed, a few fresh copies of the Centenary DVD is lying with me. Those interested in purchasing a copy @ Rs. 100/= each are advised to contact the undersigned.

Those who had been fortunate enough to witness the performance of the Navy Band in November 2008 at the Science City have requested me to procure a recording (DVD / CD) of the evening’s performance. I am happy to announce that I have already spoken to the Indian Navy officials and they have agreed to present us with a copy of the recording from which we should be able to make a few more copies (ofcourse with the prior permission of the Indian Navy officials)

We are planning to host a Website for the Goethals Alumni (Kolkata). I have checked and fond that the following Domain Names are available

www.goethalsalumnikolkata.com

www.goethalsalumni.com

I request the boys to mail me back with their suggestions. Other Domain Name suggestions also Most Welcome.

Bye

Ranjan Guha Majumder
