The AAP Express chugs along

AAP volunteers campaign at Indore railway station asking Delhi-bound passengers to vote for the party during the upcoming Assembly polls.

The party, probably having taken a leaf out of the book of Indian Railways that runs special trains to clear passenger rush during festive seasons, has hit upon an innovative way of campaigning. They are running something called the AAP Express.

The party’s new method of campaigning sees volunteers approach Delhi-bound passengers at various railway stations and asking them to vote for the party.

This campaign — titled AAP Express — has already gathered steam at Indore, Bhopal and Mumbai’s different railway stations. Similar campaigning is also being done in Rajasthan and Punjab for all Delhi-bound trains.

“Last week, when me and my wife reached Indore to board a train to Delhi, there were two volunteers wearing the Aam Aadmi cap who approached and helped us with our luggage and gave us information about AAP,” said Ramesh Kaul, who had been to his daughter’s house at Mhow near Indore.

Earlier, the party had seen volunteers from outside Delhi coming to the national Capital for campaigning on its behalf. But as the date for voting approaches, AAP volunteers from other states are approaching passengers headed towards Delhi at various railway stations and asking them to vote for AAP or spread word about them to their friends and relatives.

The volunteers take out time from their respective work/service or business and spend a few hours daily at railways stations when all the Delhi-bound trains depart.

“At Indore, our team is also distributing a pamphlet titled ‘Dilli Voters Ke Naam Paati’ (Letters to Delhi voters). The letter appeals Delhiites to vote and elect AAP in the upcoming polls,” said Prahlad Pandey, an AAP worker originally from Indore, who has come to Delhi to volunteer till the elections are over.

“The pamphlet also says ‘We cannot vote from here, but you can. Delhiites had played an important role during the 2011 Anna movement, now too it is time you vote for AAP and help bring in systemic change’,” Pandey said.

The campaign has already been running for two week now and will go on till a day before December 4, when voting will be held in Delhi for choosing a new Assembly.
