Patnaik asks other states to protest anti-terror body

Bhubaneswar, Feb 14 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday spoke with the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and asked them to oppose the powers to be vested in the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
Patnaik discussed with J. Jayalalithaa, and Mamata Banerjee and drew their attention to the powers the central government has planned to vest with the NCTC.
Patnaik has also discussed the matter with former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and sought his support in the protest, a senior official of Patnaik's office told IANS.
Citing a recent memorandum of the union ministry of home affairs regarding the powers vested in the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Patnaik had Monday written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking a review of the matter.
Describing the move as "an infringement on the powers of the states", the chief minister said the provisions have draconian overtones.

What power does Mr. Naveen Patnaik talk about?
The state intelligence has been proved useless as far as countering terrorism is concerned.
The CMs themselves are never worried for nobody can harm them because they are surrounded by a bandobast of highly armed police force.
It is the common man who suffers, be it in the railways, or temples or bazaars of the malls.
Unfortunately no bloody chief minister dies- it is always the common man.
No state police can take comprehensive action for they fear stepping onto each others shoes and they are very vigilant as far a marking their turfs are concerned.
We want a strong Anti-terrorist set up which can counter the terrorists, irrespective what the self-centred CM may say.
