UP: Rapists, who should face strongest punishments, laugh in face of law


Bareilly: Exposing the state of law and order in the Uttar Pradesh, six accused, who raped a woman were found laughing in the police station after committing the crime.
According to police, accused were arrested by an investigative team. The incident took place on Aug 17. Rapists first made a call to the husband of the woman, posing as crime branch officers, and asked him to put off his mobile phone for half an hour, said police.
And then they went to his house and told her wife that his husband has met with an accident and she needed to come along with them. She, rushed with them taking their words to be true, half the way on their journey she was raped and robbed of her belongings. Rapists snatched all the jewellery she had. When the woman tried to shout, rapists threatened her with dire consequences and to kill her son, added police official.
Police first arrested the four accused, Raman Kalia, Sumit, Jeetu, Raj bahadur, who belonged to Sanjay Nagar. Police also seized cash and jewellery.


In the state, rape cases have seen spiraling rise in last few years. This raised a huge question mark on Akhilesh government way of working. According to recent data UP state crime record has shot, from 3,467 in 2014 to 9075 in 2015. There has been 161% rise in rape cases. The increase in the number of rape cases each year in UP has been more than the countrywide spike.
