Delhi Police send letter to Team Anna, demand hospitalisation of fasting activists

New Delhi, Aug 1 (ANI): Delhi Police sent a letter to Team Anna on Wednesday, asking its fasting members-Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai - to agree to end their protest and be hospitalized.

In its letter, the Delhi Police reminded Team Anna that in the affidavit submitted to it before the start of the agitation, there was a clause that said that the latter would be permitted to shift fasting team members to hospital if their medical condition turned critical.

The letter of the Delhi Police is based on the observations of a team of doctors from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.

While Kejriwal, Sisodia and Rai have been sitting on indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar since July 25, Anna Hazare joined the fast on July 29.

Doctors have advised Kejriwal and Rai to get hospitalised as ketone levels in their body have increased, but the duo have refused to do so.

Kejriwal earlier accused the government of plotting a conspiracy against him, and said that he would be killed if taken to hospital for a medical check up.

"Whenever the government tries to take someone to hospital while they are fasting, they die. I suspect a conspiracy by the government," Kejriwal told a gathering at the Jantar Mantar here.

"If I am taken forcibly to the hospital, then the responsibility lies on the shoulders of all of you present here to take me out from there," he added, while making an emotional appeal.

Kejriwal further said that his indefinite hunger strike is a sacrifice for the nation. He also refused to give his medical reports to government doctors.

"I am not committing suicide, this is a sacrifice for the nation. Chidambaram should not be worried about my health. We will not give our medical reports to government doctors," he said.

Meanwhile, veteran social activist Anna Hazare echoed similar sentiments as his key aide, and criticized the government for its indifferent attitude.

"It is a conspiracy by the government to admit him (Kejriwal) to a hospital. We will not allow it. When does a person commit suicide? He does so when he is in trouble, but Arvind is fighting for the people of the country," he said proudly.

Anna also reiterated that his indefinite fast would continue till the last breath of his life.

"We will continue the fast till we have the last breath," he said.

Team Anna has demanded the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of retired judges of Supreme and High Courts, to probe charges of corruption against 15 cabinet ministers, including the Prime Minister.

They have also sought the transferring of cases against political party chiefs, which are being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to the SIT, in addition to setting up fast track courts to dispose of cases against lawmakers within six months. (ANI)

As I had previously said, the British would never have allowed the situation to come to such a pass.

Mahatma gandhi always got what he wanted from the british or from his own people by fasting.

However, our present day leaders are just interestedin protecting their turf and least interested in ending corruption.

They are hell bent on protecting the corrupt.

Politicians are the root cause and they are taking no action against them.

Whatever action they ar taking is only superficial against bureacrats who are just puppets in the hands of the politicians.
