Posting all the photographs together would bore you so I shall post them in small lots for the next few days with a report for those days.
We set off on the 12th march as per our plans.
Our journey was quite uneventful except some problems because of cancellations by Partha Sengupta, Peter Remedios and K D Gupta which reduced our strength to 18 members.
Manosh Chowdhury brought along his friend Joseph Lin who is in the health services.
On reaching NJP we were awaited by three vehicles which took us to SNT guest house which too was arranged by the Sikkim boys.
We were welcomed there by Pradeep Lama and Kamal Kallani.
After refreshing there and having breakfast which too was arranged by the Sikkim boys we moved forward.
We took some beautiful photographs on the way up which included two where the Teesta is joined by another tributary.
Our next stop was the Sikkim guest house at Rangpo where the boys treated themselves to a good dose of Danny’s beer with some snacks
We reached Gangtok at around 3 o’clock in the evening after stopping every now and then to imbibe the scenic beauty and to take both still and movie photographs.
Sonam, Aswin Oberoi and K K Rai welcomed us at our Hotel “Sikkim Retreat” with traditional scarfs.
It was very touching, meeting these old friends after so many years.
While the others had lunch at the hotel, I went of to M G Road to find some place where they served vegetarian meals.
M G road is a very beautiful and well maintained road where no vehicles are allowed,
There are flower beds all along the centre of the road with wooden and concrete benches where people can rest, if tired.
It is lined on both sides with good shops selling all sorts of things.
Of course, the things are bound to be more expensive than anywhere else.
At the end of M G Road is located the Oberoi House, the residence of the Oberoi brothers.
This is a seven storey building.
Three floors above the road level and three floors below road level.
Their two shops “Archie’s Gallery” and “Priknit” are on the road level.
A Union bank ATM is squeezed in between them.
