D. Raja asks PM to explain rationale behind multi-member CAG proposal

New Delhi, Nov. 12 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Monday alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government is scared of the CAG for it has exposed several scams in its tenure, and asked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to explain the rationale behind talks of the constitutional body being made into a multi-member body. Raja said the government stands thoroughly exposed and confused on the issue.

"Even the Minister says that he has not said this; but the agency says he has said it, it is recorded. So, it is for the government, the Prime Minister, because it has come from the PMO. So, now it is Prime Minister who has to come clean and explain what is the real motive behind all these talks," said Raja.

"The Prime Minister should explain suddenly why at this point of time you have woken up suddenly to change the composition of CAG," he added.

Raja further said the government is scared of CAG and wants to weaken it by talking about changing the composition.

"The CAG has been exposing very big scams under Congress-led UPA II regime in the recent past; CWG, 2G, coal blocks allocation scam, then the natural gas issue. So, the government is neck deep in corruption. The government is scared of CAG and the government is so afraid that when will be the next CAG report, what will come out of that report. The CAG has been doing a commendable job in exposing the scams, the corruptions, which have taken place, which are taking place, under the Congress-led UPA II Government," said Raja.

"And the government is obviously worried about that. The government is obviously scared of CAG and many senior members of the government have started undermining the CAG and questioning the authority of CAG. Now, the government is contemplating to weaken the CAG, targetting CAG," he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier today alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government was trying to undermine the constitutional authority of the CAG.

Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy earlier on Sunday out rightly denied media report of the UPA Government mulling over making CAG a multi-member body, saying he was misquoted. (ANI)

PTI, the agency whch published the news item however, stands by its news item. This only means that the minister, V Narayanswamy is a liar.
