SCIENTISTS have built the smallest petrol engine, tiny enough to power a WATCH.
The mini-motor, which runs for two years on a single squirt of lighter fuel, is set to revolutionize world technology.
It produces 700 times more energy than a conventional battery despite being less than a centimeter long not even half an inch.
It could be used to operate laptops and mobile phones for months doing away with the need for recharging. Experts believe it could be phasing out batteries in such items within just six years.
The engine, minute enough to be balanced on a fingertip, has been produced by engineers at the University of Birmingham .
Dr Kyle Jiang, lead investigator from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, said: “We are looking at an industrial revolution happening in peoples’ pockets. “The breakthrough is an enormous step forward. “Devices which need re- charging or new batteries are a problem but in six years will be a thing of the past.”
Other applications for the engine could include medical and military uses, such as running heart pacemakers or mini reconnaissance robots.
At present, charging an ordinary battery to deliver one unit of energy involves putting 2,000 units into it. The little engine, because energy is produced locally, is far more effective.
One of the main problems faced by engineers who have tried to produce micro motors in the past has been the levels of heat produced. The engines got so hot they burned themselves out and could not be re-used.
The Birmingham team overcame this by using heat-resistant materials such as ceramic and silicon carbide. Professor Graham Davies, head of the university’s engineering school, said: “We’ve brought together all the engineering disciplines, materials, chemical engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering. “What better place to have the second industrial revolution in nano-technology than where the first took place, in the heart of the West Midlands.Sent by Arun Shroff
Those who have read about Alibaba and the forty thieves must remember the incident when the captain of the thieves visited Alibaba's house.
On confirming that Alibaba had stolen their treasure, he marked Alibaba's house with a cross so that he could locate it later on.
Alibaba's maid-servant Morgiana observed the cross when she followed the captain as she suspected his credentials.
She then went over to all the houses and marked them with cross to be-fool the thieves.
I understand that the government is starting their census today and this time they are also taking a caste census to divide our people even further.
It was suggested earlier in one of my mails that each of us should mention as our caste as chamar or dhobi or any other scheduled caste when the census people visit you.
Inform this to your family also in case the census people visit your house in your absence.
Six humans trapped by happenstance
In black and bitter cold.
Each one possessed a stick of wood,
Or so the story's told.
Their dying fire in need of logs,
The first woman held hers back
For on the faces around the fire,
She noticed one was black.
The next man looking cross the way
Saw one not of his church,
And couldn't bring himself to give
The fire his stick of birch.
The third man sat in tattered clothes;
He gave his coat a hitch.
Why should his log be put to use
To warm the idle rich?
The rich man just sat back and thought
Of the wealth he had in store.
And how to keep what he had earned
From the lazy poor.
The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his sight,
For all he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white.
And the last man of this forlorn group
Did naught except for gain.
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.
The logs held tight in death's still hands
Was proof of human sin.
They didn't die from the cold without,
They died from the cold within. The above was sent by Sonam with the following comments
Dear Naren,
Thank you for the forward ; the poem covers more or less the entire gamutof negative emotions we all harbour within ourselves - negative aspects that keep us stagnant. It reminds me of a story I read about about two brothers, in Pakistan , who inherited a cloth shop. Theyounger brother was so filled with all the negative emotions, as shown in the 'forward', that he refused all the sensible suggestions of how the shop should be divided amongst both of them. Finally in exasperation the elder brother asked him what would satisfy him. The younger one replied " Rip all the fabric bales right down the middle and both of us keep the halves". The poem should serve as a guard for all of us. Once again thank you.

This news has been circulating now for the last two years.
Advani had made this an election issue, saying he would bring back all this money if elected to power.
He wasn't elected so it stays put in the banks.
Our central government cannot even utter the names of the persons who have the accounts inspite of prodding by the Supreme Court giving some excuse or the other.
Now Nitin Gadkari has also offered to bring back all the money but we all know this is as hollow as their earlier assurance to bring the Bofors criminals to brook.
It is only if our people rise like they have in Tunisia and Egypt will the disease be cleansed.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college.
Like so many others her age group in college, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government
programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat
with a typical liberal professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her
professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.
He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let
him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't
really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a
blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean'soffice and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a
3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing
toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."
If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between conservative and liberal or progressive or neocon I'm all ears. If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.(Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his. Sent by Sivatosh Deb

Incapable of many things, but will suck the blood out of all the Australian Taxpayers.

Each country has its own bats.
Ours is known by P Chidambaram although he is now mismanaging the Home Ministry.
If he had his way, he would slap Service tax on each breath of air we breathe or every time we went to the toilet.
Such is his appetite of sucking blood.
And he vomits all that blood on his government employees or people like Kalamadi & Co and A.Raja & Co.
