An unequal contest

An unequal contest

Varanasi’s magnified importance this election season obviously stems from the presence in the fray of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate. In the event, the arrival of Arvind Kejriwal as Narendra Modi’s challenger has added plenty of drama and excitement to a contest increasingly projected as one between David and Goliath. In theory, and possibly in actuality too, Mr. Modi has all but won the election. Mr. Modi comes into the battle backed not just by the BJP, in itself a party of considerable means, but additionally by the formidable campaign machinery of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Mr. Kejriwal, on the other hand, is the proverbial little man with no resources bar his spunk and daring. In the Delhi Assembly election, too, the Aam Aadmi Party had made its financial bankruptcy its USP, deliberately placing itself as the underdog pitted in an unequal race with the Big Two, the Congress and the BJP. However, unlike at that time, today the AAP chief carries the baggage of having hurriedly dumped the first-ever government he formed in Delhi, thus betraying his pre-poll promise to usher in systemic reform. Indeed, the BJP’s narrative, bought into by a large enough section of voters, is that Mr. Kejriwal ran away from responsibility and therefore does not deserve a second chance.

Curiously, the counter-view that Mr. Kejriwal sacrificed his chief ministership to uphold a principle, has takers as well, and this group appears to be made up largely of people on the margins — Muslims, sections of Dalits and the economically poor. What makes this election riveting is the seeming clash between the larger picture, which is of Mr. Modi winning the seat on the back of a phenomenal wave all across Uttar Pradesh, and the smaller, fragmented stories featuring underclass resistance. Mr. Kejriwal’s strategy is obviously to motivate the alienated sections into understanding the power of their numbers so as to consolidate themselves as a force against Mr. Modi. However, this is easier said than accomplished given the potential of other contestants to queer the pitch. Rival parties such as the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party will be loath to fielding weak candidates against Mr. Modi, lest that seem like handing him a walkover. The Muslim community may be divided by the likely candidature of a powerful local leader, Mukhtar Ansari of the Quami Ekta Dal. The Varanasi competition is also skewed in favour of Mr. Modi by the AAP’s logistical constraints in fighting a Lok Sabha election, which involves money, manpower and booth management skills. Mr. Modi’s biggest strength, of course, is the perception that he is the man of the moment, the leader on the cusp of power.

We all know that it is an unequal contest.

It shows Kejriwal's character and strength that he has taken on to challenge the strongest opponent.

It also shows the weakness of Modi, that he has to fight from two seats to secure his position when Kejriwal is fighting just from one seat.

Let us see, if this David kill the Goliath with his sling.

Party-wise, percentage of MPs who have pending criminal cases

This should be an eye opener for all those people who are supporting the regular political parties.

Vladimir Putin on Muslims

Vladimir Putin on Muslims

No wonder he was selected by Forbes as the most powerful person in the world!

This is one time our elected leaders should pay attention to the advice of Vladimir Putin. I would suggest that not only our leaders but every citizen of USA should pay attention to this advice. In addition all of Europe should listen as well.

How scary is that? It is a sad day when a Communist makes more sense than our LEADERS but here it is!

Vladimir Putin's Speaks

On August 04, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

“In Russia, live like Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, it should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, and live the life of Muslim's then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law.

Russia does not need Muslim minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'. We will not tolerate disrespect of our Russian culture. We had better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The Muslims are taking over those countries and they will not take over Russia. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of Sharia Law and Muslims.

When this honourable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the Russian national interest first, observing that the Muslims Minorities Are Not Russians.”

The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a five-minute standing ovation.

PS. Crimea is part of the Russian sphere of influence as the Western hemisphere is ours, via eg Monroe Doctrine, as exemplified by the US Granada adventure etc. It is strategic to Russia's Naval fleet and this must be appreciated from a geopolitical perspective.

By the way the Ukes are as fascist, corrupt, cruel bunch, as ever there was one, far more so than Russia. Their Cossack elements terrorized and murdered wantonly during WW1. My mother then resident in Poland was a voice in the then universal prayer for the Germans to arrive to free then from Uke depravations. The UKE WAFFEN SS formed the backbone of much of the Nazi killing machine in Eastern Europe during WWll. These elements form much of the political hierarchy on both sides of the UKE E/W political divide.

These bastards continue through to today as powers in a corrupt government and brutal political system. There are no good guys in the struggles.

The West should keep its nose out of this business for any number of reasons. Unfortunately Obama is meddling, trying to rehabilitate his image as a wimp and is fomenting economic instability that cannot lead to good.

On the other hand ,I personally hold no truck with the EU and its growing JewHate. and unfettered anti-Semitism, so I cynically and disgust, bitterly say "let the Bastards freeze" without Russian gas. It would l look good on them for a while! / bm

I remember, there was a similar speech by an Australian prime Minister, many years ago.

I agree, the Muslims should be confined to the countries where they are in the majority and not be allowed to infest other countries

The brilliance of Gandhi

The brilliance of Gandhi

No idea of how authentic this is but it is a good story:

When Gandhi was studying law at the University College of London, there was a professor, whose last name was Peters, who felt animosity towards Gandhi, and because Gandhi never lowered his head towards him, their "arguments" were very common.

One day, Mr. Peters was having lunch at the dining room of the University and Gandhi came along with his tray and sat next to the professor. The professor, in his arrogance, said, "Mr Gandhi: you do not understand ... a pig and a bird do not sit together to eat ", to which Gandhi replies, "You do not worry professor, I'll fly away ", and he went and sat at another table.

Mr. Peters, green with rage, decides to take revenge on the next test, but Gandhi responds brilliantly to all questions. Then, Mr. Peters asked him the following question, "Mr Gandhi, if you are walking down the street and find a package, and within it there is a bag of wisdom and another bag with a lot of money; which one will you take?"

Without hesitating, Gandhi responded, "the one with the money, of course".

Mr. Peters, smiling, said, "I, in your place, would have taken the wisdom, don't you think?"

"Each one takes what one doesn't have", responded Gandhi indifferently.

Mr. Peters, already hysterical, writes on the exam sheet the word "idiot" and gives it to Gandhi. Gandhi takes the exam sheet and sits down. A few minutes later, Gandhi goes to the professor and says, "Mr. Peters, you signed the sheet, but you did not give me my grade".

The History of the Middle Finger

The History of the Middle Finger:

Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and now that I know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified.

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as 'plucking the yew' (or 'pluck yew').

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and they began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, See, we can still pluck yew! Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodental fricative 'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as 'giving the bird.' And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing.

Whom would Netaji Subhas Bose have supported if he were alive? Read what his follower has to say

Whom would Netaji Subhas Bose have supported if he were alive? Read what his follower has to say

"After decades, I am seeing a man who is raising pertinent questions about widespread corruption, If AAP wins 50 seats, the face of our country will change. Had Bose been alive, he would have encouraged Kejriwal. Desh ka neta hawa mein nahi zameen pe hota hai. Today, no matter where the politicians go, they get a chopper. Who is financing their rides in the air and what are they doing with it - building castles in the air?"

-Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's comrade Abbas Ali pins hope on Arvind Kejriwal

Some people have the habit of accusing AAP as one reader Saurabh in FB

AAP.. Please stop maligning everyone. Please come up with a decent agenda to run Delhi/ India. Let us discuss, debate and argue on development, rather than accusing others.

For them, I have this reply:-

Saurabh, in 49 days, AAP has done more for Delhi than the Congress and BJP has done in 66 years and you are saying :come up with a decent agenda for Delhi." That was just a trailer. As far as accusing others is concerned, they deserve all the condemnation that can be heaped on them for bringing India to the state it is. How can you call a crook by any other name but a cheat or robber or dacoit. You can't call him a Sanyasi or an honest person. The agenda that AAP had for Delhi is applicable for India for these political crooks are spread all over India, in all states. If there is no corruption, India has plenty of money for development. Presently all the money goes to the crony capitalists numbering 50 odd names and the politicians. If one tackles corruption, development will take care of itself.

Camphor- The effective & healthy mosquito repellent.

Camphor- The effective & healthy mosquito repellent.

Malaria and Dengue are on a steep rise. We all must be using liquid or the old blue tablet type of mosquito repellents sold under various names. Despite their use, it is common to see mosquitoes hovering around with the best of repellents in action. Secondly, we cannot use these mosquito repellents whole day are they being of any brand. Thirdly, many people land up with allergies due to them.

In the past, man would light diyas and burn camphor on a regular basis as a part of daily puja. These helped to purify the air and keep harmful bacteria, viruses, and mosquitoes away! We can definitely have a better and healthy environment with the use of camphor.

Camphor or Kapur is a waxy, white, or transparent substance extracted from the wood of the Camphor Laurel tree found in Asia. Camphor has many known medicinal uses-

It relieves nasal congestion and cough when rubbed on the chest as an oil. Camphor is used as an ingredient in throat lozenges and cough syrups and in Vicks. Camphor is also used in some anti-itch ointments, creams and cooling gels because it is can be absorbed through skin and is effective at treating pain locally. It has an analgesic effect which makes it a favorite oil to be used in pain relieving massage blends for sore muscles and arthritic pain. Camphor is known to improve the quality of air making it a better for our lungs and heart.

Many people are not aware of the Mosquito repellent power of Camphor - a simple solution without side effects and very cost effective. CAMPHOR IS A NATURAL MOSQUITO REPELLENT With effect round the clock! You do not need to burn it for that. There are three easier ways to do it -

1. Put 2 tablets of commercially available camphor on any warm surface- the device shown in the picture serves the purpose well. Plug it for an hour and see the results! You can do it twice a day- morning and in the night as well!

2. Place 2 tablets of camphor on different corners of the room or at places where mosquitoes seem to love to stay! Leave them there and they will evaporate in a day or so keeping the air purer and mosquito free.

3. Take a wide opened cup or plate with water. Drop 2 tablets of Camphor into the water. Keep the cup with water and camphor in your sleeping room. The quantity of water and camphor may differ from room size. Water evaporates at normal temperature. Camphor slowly started dissolving in water. The water evaporates with Camphor smell. Adding little bit hot water gives instant action. You will be amazed at the results! Do experience it and help spread these healthy tips!

INDIAN BOY WHO INVENTED EMAIL

INDIAN BOY WHO INVENTED EMAIL

Monday, 24 March 2014 | Kumar Chellappan | CHENNAI

March 24, 2014

Dear Friends,

Though may be known to some, we feel proud to share the following report “Indian Boy Who Invented Email”, appearing in The Pioneer of date (March 24, 2014).

Vandemataram,

Regards,

D.C. Nath

(President, Patriots’ Forum)

9811995693

Even the best brains in computer and software engineering may not be able to answer if you ask them who invented email. This was illustrated on Sunday when this writer checked the same with Prof Achuthsankar S Nair, Director, State Inter-University Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics, Government of Kerala and Dr Iyemperumal, Executive Director, Tamil Nadu State Science and Technology Centre. Both of them expressed their helplessness even though both of them handle hundreds of email messages per day.

It is a 14-year-old boy from India and that too with roots in Tamil Nadu who invented email as well as the five-letter word which has become synonymous with communication. VA Shiva Ayyadurai, hardly out of school in New Jersey, ushered in the paperless era into this world. It was in response to a challenge thrown at him by Dr Leslie P Michelson, Director, High Performance Computing Lab, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), in Newark, New Jersey, which made little Shiva create the world's first email system in November 1978. “The UMDNJ was a big campus connected by a wide area computer network. The computer was in its initial stages of being used in the office environment. Dr Michelson wanted me to create an electronic version of the interoffice mail system so that the entire staff of doctors, secretaries, students and staff could communicate faster.

At that time, secretaries and staff were performing drafting, typing, copying, hand delivering of the entire paper-based mail. By observing the interoffice mail system, I created a parts list: Inbox, Outbox, Memo, Folders, Address Book, Attachments, and then created a computer programme of nearly 50,000 lines of computer code which replicated this entire system. I called my innovation ‘email’, a term that had never been used before. The world’s first email I sent was to Dr Michelson in November 1978,” Dr Ayyadurai told The Pioneer on Sunday. Dr Ayyadurai developed email as a software programme. “Software itself was a new concept then. In 1978, it was not even covered under the Intellectual Property Rights. The US Copyright Law of 1976 was amended, however, in 1980 to allow for the protection of software. In 1982, I was awarded the first US Copyright for ‘Email’, recognising me as the inventor of email by the US Government,” said Dr Ayyadurai, who holds four different Post Graduate degrees including a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

“What you see in any email system today, the Inbox, Outbox, Address Book, the Memo (From, To, Date, Subject, Body, CC and BCC), Attachments, etc are based on my observations to replicate the interoffice mail system. In November 1978, as a 14-year-old school boy, I addressed the doctors of the University on what I invented and demonstrated the use of this entire system,” reminiscences Dr Ayyadurai, son of Vellayappa Ayyadurai, a chemical engineer hailing from Rajapalayam in Tamil Nadu and Meenakshi, a mathematics teacher who went on to become the head of the elite Don Bosco Public School in Mumbai.

The Ayyadurais migrated to the USA in 1970 in search of greater challenges so that little Shiva could get better education and exposure. He did not let his parents down. By the age of 13 he had mastered all known computer programming languages in vogue and went on to create email, which revolutionised the world of communication.

Dr Ayyadurai has come out with a book The Email Revolution: Unleashing The Power of Connect which has foreword by Dr Leslie Michelson and an introduction by none other than Prof Noam Chomsky. He is in India as part of his mission to identify more “Shivas” who have much better innovations to offer to the world.

“Young people of all colors, hungry to make this world a better place, are going to innovate things we’ve never imagined. We have to provide more global images to young people, in India, for example, with icons, beyond just white skinned and white haired, bearded scientists,” said Dr Ayyadurai.

And how many of us are aware of the fact that radio was invented by Prof Jagdish Chandra Bose? It was his failure to get it patented that cost Dr Bose the title. Marconi, who had seen Dr Bose’s public demonstration of the radio, had approached him with an irresistible offer to market the same. But Dr Bose wanted the radio to be used for the welfare of the humanity. The night he held the public demonstration, his equipment was robbed from his hotel room. The rest is history,” Prof Ranjit Nair, leading physicist, had told this writer. So, today we all think Marconi, an Italian, invented Radio.

But, when it comes to email, it's time to set the record straight, once and for all — it was a boy, a 14-year-old Indian boy, who invented email. The facts are black and white.

53,000 Irishmen meet for the 'Irish Are Not Stupid'

53,000 Irishmen meet for the 'Irish Are Not Stupid' Paddy McLoughlin addresses the crowd..

'We are all here today to prove to the world that the Irish are not stupid. Can I have a volunteer please?'

Mick O'Rourke gingerly works his way through the crowd and steps up to the stage.

Paddy asks him 'What is 15 plus 15?'

After 15 or 20 seconds Mick says, 'Forty!'

Obviously everyone is a little disappointed. Then the Irishmen start chanting 'Give him another chance! Give him another chance!'

Paddy says, 'Well since we have a capacity crowd, world-wide press and global broadcast media here, I think we can give him another chance.'

So he asks, 'What is 5 plus 5?'

After nearly 30 seconds he eventually says, ' Twelve?'

Paddy looks down and just lets out a dejected sigh.

Everyone is disheartened and Mick starts crying.

But then the 53,000 Irishmen begin to yell and wave their hands shouting, 'Give him another chance! Give him another chance!'

Paddy, unsure whether he is now doing more harm than good eventually says, 'OK then, what is 2 plus 2?'

Silence hangs over the stadium.

Mick closes his eyes, and after a whole minute eventually says, 'Four?'

Pandemonium breaks out throughout the stadium as the Irish crowd stand to a man, wave their arms, stomp their feet and scream, 'Give him another chance! Give him another chance!'

Congress using Kejriwal as a weapon against Modi: BJP

Congress using Kejriwal as a weapon against Modi: BJP

New Delhi, Mar. 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal had been asked to contest against their party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Varanasi by the Congress, as he was a pawn of the latter.

"First of all, the Congress does not have the guts to contest the polls and stand against the BJP, as they are aware that there party stands nowhere close to winning. On top of that, they are sending their pawns (Kejriwal) to contest against Modi in Varanasi," said Naqvi.

"Kejriwal is being used by the Congress as a weapon against the BJP. We would like to give them an advice that they should be more concerned about the end of their party, rather than worrying about other parties," he said.

Kejriwal arrived in Varanasi this morning and is likely to hold a 'referendum' at a rally today seeking people's approval for his decision to challenge Modi from this seat.

The former Delhi Chief Minister had earlier said that his immediate task is to hold the proposed rally in Varanasi and seek people's approval first and then finalize his stand on contesting against Modi.

Further, the AAP chief took a dig on Modi for the latter not being sure about his win from one constituency.

"Why is he (Modi) even thinking of contesting from two seats, an aspiring prime minister should have at least this minimum courage to contest only from one seat," Kejriwal added.

Polling for the Varanasi seat will be held on May 12, four days before votes are counted, in the final round of the nine-phase elections that kick off on April 7. (ANI)

The BJP is again creating a smoke screen that the Congress is supporting AAP.

They have really become scared that is why even their prime Minister is standing for election from two places which the Supreme Court strongly disapproves.

The AAP is against all the established parties since they are without exception CORRUPT.

It is especially harsh on the two major parties, BJP and Congress because they are the father and mother of all the other parties.

These parties have been formed by corrupt and disgruntled element from the BJP and Congress as they could not make money there.

Further the BJP and Congress have misruled for the major part of the 66 years after Independence.

The Congress, presently is a spent force and hence the AAP keeps all its ammunition dry for the BJP.

So BJP, don't fool the people by dragging in the Congress.

You are enemy No 1 and the Congress i Enemy no 2.

BJP says may review gas price formula if elected - who are they fooling?

BJP says may review gas price formula if elected NEW DELHI (Reuters) - The BJP would review a new gas pricing formula if elected, a party official said on Tuesday, a day after the election commission asked the government to defer an increase in prices that was to take effect on April 1. "If we are voted into power we would have to look at all the facts, all the realities on the ground, while keeping the interest of stakeholders in mind - in particular consumers," said Narendra Taneja, National Convener, Energy Cell, for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). "If this means going for a review we will review the pricing formula," Taneja told Reuters, reiterating a position stated previously by a senior BJP leader. The BJP thinks it can fool the people by issuing a belated statement after the Election Commission had put the price increase of hold. With Narendra Modi in power and his friend Mukesh Ambani being the beneficiary of the price increase, we all know what the result would be.

The best thing would be to kick out the BJP and Congress.

Supreme Court calls on BCCI boss Srinivasan to step down

Supreme Court calls on BCCI boss Srinivasan to step down

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - The Supreme Court called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief N. Srinivasan to step down on Tuesday to ensure a probe into illegal betting during last year's Indian Premier League (IPL), in which his son-in-law has been indicted, is fair.

The involvement of Gurunath Meiyappan, who is married to the daughter of the BCCI president, in the illegal betting case was proved by a court-appointed committee last month.

The committee had been set up by the Supreme Court.

Srinivasan should step down to ensure the probe is not hampered, a two-member bench said, asking the BCCI to file a detailed response to their position by Thursday.

Srinivasan, regarded as the world's most powerful cricket administrator, is set to take over as chairman of the International Cricket Council board in July.

Meiyappan was arrested in late May by Mumbai Police probing illegal betting on the lucrative Twenty20 IPL but was released on bail within two weeks.

Legal sports betting in India is confined to horse racing.

Local media claimed Meiyappan was chief executive of the Chennai Super Kings but the company that owns the IPL franchise, India Cements, said he was merely a member of team management.

The scandal surfaced when former test bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and two other local cricketers were arrested on suspicion of taking money to concede a fixed number of runs.

Sreesanth, who had denied any wrongdoing, was subsequently banned for life by the BCCI.

There was a time when a railway minister resigned because of an accident in the railways but nowadays, railway ministers do not have the time even to visit the site of the railway accident, leave alone resigning. Instead, they are busy in their states, pleasing their bosses.Naturally this mentality percolates down and the BCCI president does not think it fit to resign although his son-in-law is caught with his pants down in a betting scandal, involving the BCCI president's team.

I am happy with the Supreme Courts's decision.

Delhi Government Resignation Re-visited

Delhi Government Resignation Re-visited Is the middle class starting to have second thoughts about the Aam Aadmi Party? A key issue that seems to be bothering their minds is the recent resignation of the Kejriwal government in Delhi. There are some who say, “You had an opportunity to govern but you threw it all away because you were too ambitious and wanted to grow bigger, faster - let the BJP govern in 2014 and we’ll vote for you in 2019.” A simple thought comes to mind: Can we tolerate such extreme corruption in this country for another 5 years? Is choosing the lesser of the two evils the only way forward?

Let us retrace the steps leading up to the resignation of the Kejriwal government in Delhi. When the Jan Lokpal bill was expected to be tabled in the assembly, Arvind Kejriwal had an on-stage interview in the midst of the Delhi Lit Festival where he had said categorically that if the bill can’t be passed, his government would resign. This was telecast live. The anchor was thrilled and at the same time surprised because, firstly, she knew she had just been delivered a TRP coup, and secondly, she was least expecting such a candid response from the young CM.

In this day and age of Indian politics, it is almost impossible to find a leader who does not wish to hang on to power at any cost. Kejriwal’s critics will disagree, but his comments at the interview showed tremendous conviction and courage. There seemed be no doubt in his mind that if the centerpiece of AAP’s agenda couldn’t be passed, then there was no point in remaining in power. It was a principled stand. To him, it was not at all complicated. It’s not about being in power. It’s about bringing about systemic changes. And such changes won’t come about with a minority government. It was an incredible display of great clarity of thought and purpose, the kind of political leadership this country has not witnessed in the lifetime of most of its young population. Kejriwal’s critics can deride him all they want but it is these very attributes that endear him to most of his supporters whose numbers are growing by the minute.

Politics might be the art of the possible. But unfortunately, that realm of possibility does not include making opposition politicians who are corrupt agree to laws that could eventually land themselves in jail! Resignation of the Delhi government was the only course of action.

Next, let's look at the role of the other parties in this process. The Congress party tried to prevent the tabling of the bill by dragging the Lt. Governor into the mix and seeking constitutional avenues to provide roadblocks. Besides, the public session at Ram Leela Maidan that Kejriwal and team requested was turned down for flimsy security reasons. The BJP, on the other hand, tried to have it both ways. On the one hand, the BJP wanted to scuttle the bill too, but on the other hand, they could not appear to join hands with the Congress. So Harsh Vardhan tweeted saying, “We’ll support the bill.” Shortly thereafter, in the aftermath of the FIR against Mukesh Ambani, the BJP had to rethink and backtrack on its plans and decided instead to plunge the assembly into chaos.

The reality is that neither party wanted the bill to be tabled. What’s wrong in having a discussion on the bill? How can there be dialog unless the bill is tabled? Clearly, AAP didn’t have the numbers and the Congress and BJP weren’t up to playing “ball.” Then, where is the question of negotiation?

A strong anti-corruption deterrent has been the cornerstone of AAP’s agenda. So anyone who expects the AAP to compromise on corruption has completely misread this movement and what it represents. The AAP government was in an extraordinary situation, and there was no option left but to resign. As the saying goes, you can’t make omelets without breaking a few eggs.

When I hear people branding AAP as being too early and unprepared to govern in 2014, I am reminded of 2008 when then-candidate Obama was rated by many as being inexperienced to lead America. He responded brilliantly in a speech in which he said, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." This was true then for America and I believe it is true for India today. It’s entirely up to us to seize the moment, or lose it forever.

Politically Inspired Technology - The AAP’s my.aamaadmiparty.org platform

Politically Inspired Technology - The AAP’s my.aamaadmiparty.org platform

Very often, you find new technologies in search of a market. But in other instances, it is the reverse; new technology solutions are developed to address a specific need and then it turns out to be a winner. The rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has created some interesting opportunities for its young and technology savvy members to channelize their skills to solve pressing campaign problems. One of the primary goals of any political party involved in a campaign is to get access to data or information about its voters, its supporters, its members, its donors, etc. These “users” are scattered out across the globe and their identities are buried in various email systems, social networks and other Internet platforms. People from all over the world using a plethora of devices such as computers, phones, tablets, etc., to access and consume information, unwittingly leaving traces of their identity at most places. Then, in the physical world we have the age old technique of pen and paper based registration, hand written cheques, etc.

How does a political party collate all this information and harness the true power of its support base and grow this over time? How does a party identify and target audiences with specific messages? How do you reach out to your volunteers for help? How do you cater to different language requirements in different states? How do you address relevant news to voters based on their profile and location? How do you target NRI news to the overseas audience? Ultimately, it’s about gathering data and intelligence and mining that to your advantage. With advancements in technology, there are plenty of commercial solutions out there that can assist with tackling this challenge. But trying to do things on a zero budget, while under extreme time pressure, but purely driven by sheer passion for a cause is an entirely different story.

It is in this context that the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) newly launched “my.aamaadmiparty.org,” an innovative, first of its kind platform, built entirely by volunteers, makes a great story. One can register on the portal using credentials from Google, Facebook, Live, and Yahoo! So to start with, the registration process is just a simple click. Once you register, you have choice of becoming a member, volunteer, donor, etc. Further, you have the ability to create your own personal donation link which you can then pass on to your friends through email, social networks, etc. When this link is passed around and your friends donate to the party via that link, you get to see and keep track of it. In other words, you are not just a donor anymore, you are a donation generating engine of sorts. You can sit within the confines of your home, office, or pretty much anywhere, and fire away this link and generate donations for AAP. You could even be more aggressive and bombard your network with reminders. This network donation facility is called “The Ripple” as it slowly but surely flows through consenting adults’ bank accounts and credit cards to fuel the dreams and aspirations of the Aam Aadmi.

In the true spirit of "Swaraj" these donations have been decentralized such that donors can actually donate to specific candidate at a constituency level. Further, the system has the ability to display targeted donations for specific candidates based on the user's profile information such as the constituency. For the die-hard AAP supporter, the system gives you the embed code that you could use to add your favorite candidate to your own personal website.

Next, the system also gives you the ability to empower AAP to spread messages on your behalf on Twitter and Facebook. The portal can simultaneously fire a series of Tweets and posts on Facebook walls in a matter of minutes. This facility is rightly called the “Voice of AAP,” because each registrant can choose to become a carrier of AAP’s message. Most importantly, technology is letting the AAP do things for you with minimal effort on your side.

A big part of technology is its ability to provide metrics. The portal keeps track of your efforts for you so you can actually put some value to your contributions to the AAP. The portal will be able to give you real time data about how you helped AAP - the donations you helped raise from your network, and the number of Facebook posts and tweets that were done on your behalf.

What I have described here is only the tip of the iceberg. There is a whole host of things that can be done with this system and possible extensions, given the amount of data and intelligence that is available in just a few mouse clicks.

One of the AAP’s biggest challenges after Delhi has been its inability to manage the huge groundswell of supporters and volunteers who desperately want to help the party. Today, AAP has a simple solution: join the network, and get to work or let the technology do some of the work for you instead!

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of this platform is that it was built and setup entirely by volunteers burning the midnight oil for months from across the globe. These folks have had several virtual meetings but never met in person. The biggest common factor that unites them is their love for the country and their firm belief in AAP’s dream for India. Never before in the history of Indian politics have IT professionals been inspired to such an extent. No matter which way this election turns out, the AAP surely deserve credit for inspiring and motivating techies around the globe.

PRESS RELEASE

The expenditure statements of political parties contain details of ‘lumpsum amount given to the candidates’ and the abstract statements of candidates provide information on ‘lumpsum amount received from the parties’. This report analyses the difference in the declarations made by political parties and their MPs on the lumpsum amounts granted and received as part of election expenditure during the Lok Sabha elections in 2009.

A total of 388 MPs’ expenditure statements were analysed. And out of 277 MPs from national parties, a total of Rs 7,46,58,901 (~ Rs 7.46 crores) was declared by 75 MPs as received from their parties but the national parties have declared that Rs 14,19,12,228 (~ Rs 14.19 crores) was given to 138 MPs

Of the regional parties, a total of 15 MPs from 12 different parties and belonging to 9 different states have mentioned various amounts as received from their respective parties which do not match with the affidavits submitted by the parties.

Party-wise breakup of difference in amounts declared by the MPs:

o Out of 123 MPs to whom INC has declared to have given lumpsum amounts for election expenditure, 81 MPs have declared NIL amount received. Shri Pranab Mukherjee who was given Rs. 15 lacs as declared by the party, has mentioned that no lump sum amount was received for his election expenses. Others include Subodh Kant Sahay, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Manish Tewari, Sachin Pilot, P. Chidambaram, Beni Prasad Verma, etc

o Sriprakash Jaiswal (Minister of Coal), Dinsha Patel (Minister of Mines), P.Chidambaram (Minister of Finance) among 23 others have declared that they received no lumpsum amount from their parties while INC declared they gave a total of Rs 2.35 crores or an average of Rs 10 lakhs to these 23 MPs

Recommendations of ADR:

1. Submission of Election Expenses by unrecognized parties

Currently, the election expenditure statements have to be submitted only by national and recognized regional parties within 90 days after the elections and not by unrecognized parties. It would only improve financial transparency if all contesting parties disclosed their election expenditure during Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections.

2. Details of donors

Details of the donors such as their names, companies, address and the individual contribution is unavailable for public scrutiny. Hence, a format similar to the donations report, submitted to the ECI on an annual basis, has to be prescribed so as to bring in more transparency in the functioning of the political parties especially during elections. The format should include all modes of payments such as Cash, DD, Cheque and Electronic transfer along with donors’ names.

For more details on the difference in the declaration of election expenditure between political parties and their MPs, please refer to the attached document.

Muslims My Ass...

Muslims My Ass...

Barack Obama, during his Cairo speech, said: "I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America 's history."

AN AMERICAN CITIZEN'S RESPONSE

I want to shake the guy's hand that wrote this...

Have you ever seen a Muslim hospital?

Have you heard a Muslim orchestra?

Have you seen a Muslim band march in a parade?

Have you witnessed a Muslim charity?

Have you shaken hands with a Muslim Girl Scout?

Have you seen a Muslim Candy Striper?

The answer is no, you have not. Just ask yourself WHY ???

Dear Mr. Obama:

Were those Muslims that were in America when the Pilgrims first landed? Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day? Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the:

United States Constitution?

Declaration of Independence ?

Bill of Rights?

Didn't think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country's freedom from England ? No.

Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America ? No, they did not.

In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery. Your own half-brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as "pug nosed slaves." Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family's "rich Islamic heritage," doesn't it Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country?

Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country's Woman's Suffrage era?

Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so, that often they are beaten for not wearing the 'hajib' or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights, aren't they?

Where were Muslims during World War II?

They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazis in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001?

If they weren't flying planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East . No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very "moderate" Muslims whose asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo, Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the "rich heritage" Muslims have here in America ...

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslims.

And now we can add November 5, 2009 - the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counseling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan .

Also, don't forget the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15.2013 was done by 2 Muslim Brothers.

That, Mr. Obama, is the "Muslim heritage" in America

Muslim Heritage, my ass.

They tell us we shouldn't judge all Muslims by the actions of a few extremists,

But we SHOULD judge all gun owners by the actions of a few extremists.

Tea Time Middle East Cafe

Two Middle East mothers are sitting in a cafe chatting over a plate of tabouli and a pint of goat's milk and tea.

The older of the two pulls a small folder out of her handbag and starts flipping through photos.

They start reminiscing.

''This is my oldest son, Mujibar. He would have been 24 years old now.''

''Yes, I remember him as a baby.'' says the other mother cheerfully.

"He's a martyr now though." the mother confides.

"Oh, so sad dear...'' says the other.

''And this is my second son, Khalid. He would have been 21.''

''Oh, I remember him,'' says the other happily, ''he had such curly hair when he was born.''

''He's a martyr too...'' says the mother quietly.

''Oh, gracious me...'' says the other.

''And this is my third son. My baby. My beautiful Ahmed. He would have been 18'', she whispers.

"Yes," says the friend enthusiastically, ''I remember when he first started school...''

''He's a martyr also,'' says the mother, with tears in her eyes.

After a pause and a deep sigh, the second Muslim mother looks wistfully at the photographs and, searching for the right words, says "They blow up so fast, don't they?"

What Happened Doc?

Obama got out of the shower and was drying off when he looked in the mirror and realized that he was white from his neckline to the top of his head.

In a sheer panic and fearing he was turning white all over, he called his doctor and told him what had happened.

The doctor advised him to come to his office immediately.

After an examination, the doctor mixed a concoction of brown liquid, gave it to Barack, and told him to drink it all without stopping.

Barack drank the concoction and said, "That tasted like bullshit!"

"It was." the doctor replied,

"You were a quart low."

Rats leaving a sinking ship

Rats leaving a sinking ship

Those people voting for Modi are truly frustrated with the Congress policy in the last 10 years.

It is understandable, I too am frustrated with what the Congress has done.

But do you know that by voting for Modi, you are just voting for ex-Congress people who are just leaving the Congress likes rats scurrying away from a sinking ship.

BJP is the new Congress. After all, Congress members are being welcomed with open arms and given tickets. So when you vote for BJP in 2014, you are really voting the Congress back.

Dont believe this? Well, take a look at all the "migrations" that have happened in the last few months, from CONGRESS into BJP.

Just look at the Ayarams below.

By voting for Modi, you are actually voting for these rats.

We are just waiting for Rahul Gandhi and Sonia too to join the BJP, accompanied by Suresh Kalamadi

Let us ring in a change.

Let us vote for Aam Aadmi Party

JD(S) Delhi merges with AAP

JD(S) Delhi merges with AAP

The Delhi state unit of Janata Dal (Secular) on Saturday merged itself into the Aam Aadmi Party. Led by its state president and chairman of the All India Muslim Ekta Manch, Haji Ikram Hasssan, hundreds of JD(S) workers were welcomed into the AAP by party leaders Professor Anand Kumar and Dilip Pandey.

Among those who joined the party included JD(S) Delhi unit vice-president Haji Mohammad Yamin, secretaries Afzal Siddiqui, Haji Muteja and Kishan Lal. The JD(S) women’s wing president Sukshma Singh and secretary Sahiba Naqvi, spokesperson Shafiq Mohammad and vice-president Afzal Siddiqui also became the AAP members.

Apart from the JD(S) a large number of BSP and Congress workers from the Delhi North East parliamentary constituency also joined the AAP and pledged their support for the party candidate Professor Anand Kumar.

Addressing these workers from Gokulpuri, Babbarpur and Mustaffabad assembly segments of the North East parliamentary constituency, Professor Kumar and Dilip Pandey said the AAP is willing to welcome political activists with a clean track record into its fold who are ready to work for the eradication of corruption and communalism from the society.

Professor Kumar said the AAP goal in the coming Lok Sabha elections is to ensure that honest MPs willing to fight dynastic politics and criminalization of politics are sent to the Lok Sabha.

The JD(S), BSP and Congress workers who joined the AAP said they were impressed with the functioning the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi, which fulfilled its election promises of bringing down the electricity bills and providing free water to the residents.

The AAP leaders appealed to these workers to take the message to the people that the Congress and BJP joined hands to bring down the Kejriwal government so that the pro-people measures started by it did not last long.

Several leaders and workers from other parties are in touch with the AAP and are willing to join the party, but the decision will only be taken in case they are willing to endorse the core principles of the party

I suppose, the Muslims are at last realizing the the Congress and the SP are using them as cannon fodder, to be used in elections and then thrown away as waste shells.

AAP is the only party which will be take care of both the Hindus and the Muslims and all other castes because it will eradicate corruption and have plenty of funds for the development of the country and creation of jobs.

Money is not a problem.

There is plenty of money, it the utilization that is a problem.

As Rajeev Gandhi said, only 10 % reaches the intended target.

And with Modi, favouring industrialist like Mukesh Ambani, Adani and others, you can expect that prices will increase further if the BJP is brought to power.

How Mamta is funding her own elections with state funds

How Mamta is funding her own elections with state funds Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday took a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for organising a fund raising dinner.

Launching her Trinamool Congress' manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls, Banerjee mocked the AAP without naming it in an apparent reference to the recent fund-raising dinner organised in Bangalore during its leader Arvind Kejriwal's visit to the southern city.

"Nowadays, people are even taking money for lunch and dinner. There are different prices for different seats. If you sit in front you pay more... maybe they had different prices for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, different rates for plain water and coloured water," said Banerjee with a chuckle.

She also showed her amusement over "free water" promised by AAP in its manifesto.

"I heard in some places there is tax on water. But here in Bengal people get it for free. I haven't heard that people will have to pay money to get water. In Bengal, water will always remain free," she said.

Banerjee yet again seemingly targeted the newly formed AAP when she wondered how some recently established parties were getting "lakhs and lakhs" of rupees.

"Electoral reform is one of our topmost priorities, and state funding of elections is imperative. Even parties newly formed are getting lakhs and lakhs of rupees. I can't understand from where they are getting this money," she said.

Expressing anguish over India not adopting state funding of elections, unlike many foreign countries, Banerjee accused the parties of using money power to buy out the media and use them for their own ends.

"This is not politics, parties have become hypocrites and they have no right to continue. That's why we say electoral reforms are our topmost priority," she said.

Raising the issue of black money allegedly stashed in foreign tax havens, Banerjee said, her party will endeavour to create a preventive joint mechanism with foreign countries.

Why is Mamta Banerjee complaining of funding of elections by the state.

She is already funding her election with state funds.

By giving lakhs of to each and every club in Bengal, she has bought for herself their allegiance and canvassing and booth capturing capabilities.

What the CPM earlier did with their cadres, Mamta is now doing with the clubs and the many unions and cadres of the CPM who have switched sides.

Contributions from dinners is a standard practise in the USA which Mamta Banerjee will not understand although she has tried to make Kolkata into London by installing trident lights, 30% of which have become defunct along the VIP road.

The two Seat Conundrum in Elections

The two Seat Conundrum in Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced Vadodara as the second constituency from where party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections.

Apart from Vadodara, Modi is also contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

In an obvious bid to halt the Modi ripple effect in eastern UP, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has decided to contest the Azamgarh seat in Uttar Pradesh, too. His candidature from Mainpuri, which he represents in the Lok Sabha, has already been announced.

The Yadav supremo is learnt to be planning to win both the seats and then vacate Mainpuri for Prateek to contest in the by-election. Vacating strongholds for family members seems to be a tradition in the family, and has happened earlier in Ferozabad, Kannauj, Sambhal and Budaun.

Akhilesh had won Ferozabad and Kannauj in 2009. He vacated the former from where his wife Dimple Yadav contested but lost to Raj Babbar in the by-election. Later, Akhilesh vacated Kannauj when he became CM, and Dimple won unopposed from there. Mulayam has similarly left Sambhal and Budaun in the past for close relatives. The SP has won the Azamgarh seat twice. It is indeed ironical that Ramakant Yadav, who won the seat for SP both the times, will now be posing a strong challenge to the SP supremo as the BJP nominee this time.

However, party leaders are more than confident that once Mulayam is there, Ramakant would stand no chance. "When 'netaji' is himself in the contest, Ramakant would stand nowhere," said senior SP leader Naresh Agarwal. Muslims, Yadavs and all backwards would go with Mulayam, he added.

The above is a scourge, a crime committed on the nation and the people.

It should be stopped immediately.

I am gland the Supreme Court has taken up the matter and this will be the last election where this crime will be allowed.

Some famous Ayaram - Gayarams in the 2014 elections

Some famous Ayaram - Gayarams in the 2014 elections

Satpal Maharaj: The sitting Congress MP from Pauri Garwhal in Uttarakhand provoked this list. A Congressman for years, he has chosen to cross over to the BJP in a year that the party is given its best shot at grabbing power at the Centre. The former union minister said he was upset at the way the Congress had treated workers in his constituency.

Rahul Narvekar: The articulate, youthful Shiv Sena spokesman joined Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party on March 17. He was instantly rewarded with a Lok Sabha ticket from Maval. Mr Narvekar said he was quitting the Sena because he was being denied his due. He had been forced to sit out of the legislative council elections in Maharashtra after being conferred a ticket.

Mohan Rawale: It's not just the young ones. This five-term Shiv Sena MP too has joined the NCP. Rawale was expelled from Shiv Sena in December for stoking dissidence.

Jagdambika Pal: Famous for being the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for three days, Jagdambika Pal, the sitting Congress MP from Domariyaganj, is contesting as a BJP candidate this time. With the Congress on a sticky wicket in UP, the only way he could have saved his Lok Sabha seat was to ride on the BJP's surge.

Col (Retd.) Sona Ram Choudhary: The two-term former Congress MP from Barmer is causing serious problems in the BJP "parivaar" he joined recently. Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje reportedly wants to field him as the BJP candidate in Barmer, a seat that senior leader Jaswant Singh has his heart set on.

Ram Kripal Yadav: Lalu Prasad's closest aide stunned political circles by joining the BJP earlier this month. He was miffed that Lalu decided to field his daughter from Patliputra, the Bihar seat he wanted to contest. The BJP is now fielding him from there.

Vijay Singh Kushwaha: A close friend of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and husband of state industries and disaster management minister Renu Kushwaha has been fielded as the BJP candidate from Madhepura. His wife quit Nitish Kumar's cabinet too.

Hema Gamang: The former Congress MP and wife of former Odisha chief minister Giridhar Gamang has joined Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal, seen as the likely winner of this year's elections in the state - Parliament and assembly.

Bidyut Mahato: A sitting Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, or JMM lawmaker from Baharagora in Jharkhand joined the BJP earlier this week. Hours later, he was announced as the BJP candidate from Jamshedpur.

Purnamasi Ram: The JD(U) MP from Gopalganj was expelled on February 27 for indulging in anti-party activities. He has now joined Congress, and has been allotted the party ticket from Gopalganj.

On the account of complaints received the party had initiated a probe into the alleged issue of promising party ticket to an aspirant in favour of money. Kejriwal expelled Convener of the party in Awadh, Aruna Singh and a treasurer of the party in the district of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh.

"We could not believe it initially, then probed into the complaints we received. So, on the account of the evidence we have gathered, today we are expelling the convenor of Awadh zone, Aruna Singh and Ashok who was the treasurer of Hardoi," said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal appealed the people and media to expose the people within AAP who were corrupted. He also added that if somebody offers money to such fraudsters, it will be a complete waste of it.

"Here, money can't buy tickets, even if you give money to somebody, your money will be wasted. If somebody asks for money from you, it is my request to you to record the person's voice using a recorder and give it us. We will not keep the person in the party more than 24 hours. We will dismiss the person expeditiously," added Kejriwal.
